Beggars
A list of songs I've been digging. |
1 | Black Flag Nothing Left Inside
You can definitely see the kind of influence My War had on bands like Neurosis; the sludgey pace, the use of dissonance and the feeling that something is about to happen all appear here. |
2 | Misfits Helena
I've always thought this song was a bit underrated. It starts with the "Why don't you love me anyway?" part which Danzig does a great job on the vocals, but then around the 1 minute mark it turns into a fast power chord riffage and then a riff at 1:15 that sounds like what most metalcore bands attempt to play. |
3 | Only Living Witness December
This song had me addicted for a while. The combination of the tribal drums and the riff at the beginning which then launches into the amazing vocals of Jonah Jenkins just grabbed me completely. |
4 | Ulver Ulvsblakk
Is it bad that I prefer the acoustic Ulver to the black metal one? Also, Garm's voice is godly on A Cappella (Sielens Sang). |
5 | Suit Of Lights Who Stands Beneath a Dream
I was surprised by this. I don't know why but I didn't fully trust this band, which includes Steve from Thursday, James Egan from Catch 22, and Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle, until I heard them and I can only say they made me shut my mouth. |
6 | Sonic Youth Incinerate
This guys have some great ear for catchy melodies. |
7 | The Dismemberment Plan You Are Invited
I can't help but rock out in the 2nd chorus. |
8 | Cap'n Jazz Little League
This whole song is fantastic. The guitars have the very distinctive style of Victor Villareal, and the bridge where he sings the "Kitty kitty cat" and "thin kids" part is NICER KINSELLAISER. |
9 | Caifanes Quisiera Ser Alcohol
This song is very relaxing, and gives me the feeling that I'm at a one of those bars with a piano that appears in movies. Thinking about it, it kind of reminds me of Thrice's "Digging My Own Grave". |
10 | Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart
Ian Curtis voice makes me shiver. |
