Surprise, surprise. Hardcore Neil Young fan rates Neil Young as the No. 1 show I've been to. I saw him with Everlast, who were okay, and a surprise guest Dr. John, who was the shit with a solid funk group behind him, opening for the greatest thing to come out of Canada, period. Opened up with the sound that made him known as "The Godfather of Grunge", playing classic electric Neil such as "Love And Only Love", "Powderfinger", "Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)", and maybe the best live version of "Cortez The Killer" ever (://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7PAEtb0sDs). Came back with some solid country-tinged songs like "Unknown Legend", "The Needle And The Damage Done", "Old Man", and a very, very, VERY, pleasant surpise, "Oh Lonesome Me". Songs from his then-upcoming album Fork In The Road were decent at best, but then came "Cowgirl In The Sand", "Rockin' In The Free World", and as an encore the most incredible cover of "A Day In The Life" you could imagine with Neil ripping the strings off of his guitar and then walking to a vibraphone to play the final E chord. At 60-some odd years and 40 years into his career, Neil has most definitely still got it, and then some. | | 1 | Neil Young

As blasphemous as it sounds, I only came to this show to see the opening act, The Strokes, who in all fairness were awesome, but nothing compared to the Heartbreakers. This is the moment I became a fan of Tom Petty, as probably the only thing I listened to was "Free Fallin'". Now I could list off about 40 amazing Tom Petty songs, which album they're on, and who produced it. Best moment of the show was the solo on "Runnin Down A Dream". Mike Campbell needs A LOT more credit, as he is one hell of a guitar player. Anybody who has a chance to see them, should take the opportunity and go be wowed. | | 2 | Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Honestly, the United Center is the worst place to see a show, but that does not factor into the full experience of seeing the Boss in action. Great songs from the Magic album, and great band interaction with the E Street Band, one of the best backing bands ever (along with the aforementioned Heartbreakers). Best moment of the show was "She's The One" and "Badlands", though the encore with "Born To Run" was equally incredible. You know what, the whole show was the best moment. | | 3 | Bruce Springsteen

Yes this was last night, and it was AWESOME. Tortoise opened up and set the bar pretty damn high, but Wilco came and completely smashed that. Nels Cline is one of the best guitar players out there, and Jeff Tweedy was stoned off his ass, and still could belt out some great classics, including my personal Wilco fav, "Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway (Again). | | 4 | Wilco

Some weird experimental band opened, and then Sonic Youth came on in all of their weird glory (Thurston Moore was wearing a shirt of 5 guys fistin each other in honor of the Gay Pride Parade in chicago). First time I ever moshed in a show, got elbowed in the face, and then punched the fucker in the eye.
