Adam Downer's Top 25 Albums Of 2009

With reasons (if I feel like it)!
1Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion

As if you expected anything else.
2Japandroids
Post-Nothing

Just saying the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible. I wish we had ties.
3Brand New
Daisy

Cuz I listen to this more than I do Post-Nothing, but Post-Nothing has more special moments, so they are basically are of equal quality in my mind.
4Mono
Hymn to the Immortal Wind

I've written way too much about this already.
5Atlas Sound
Logos

This is to me this year what Microcastle was supposed to be last year. Don't get me wrong, I'm now a fan of Deerhunter, but Logos is Microcastle's equal if not it's superior.
6The Antlers
Hospice

This. Is. Sad. And just what exactly is the storyline anyway?
7 Raekwon
Only Built For Cuban Lynx pt. II

ain't nothin ta fuck wit. Second favorite hip hop release ever
8Animal Collective
Fall Be Kind

Probably shouldve been number 2 but I have to appear objective to you people
9Elder
Reflect

Post Rock, shoegaze, skramz: my perfect storm
10DJ Sprinkles
Midtown 120 Blues

So so so so so mesmerizing.
11Daitro
Y

Expected this to be awesome, but I didn't expect it to be like hey dudes lets play Brawl to Daitro awesome.
12A City Safe From Sea
Throw Me Through Walls

John Hanson's review of this coming on the release of Ritual of Names
13Do Make Say Think
Other Truths

This could only have "Do" on it and it would still find a spot on this list.
14Converge
Axe to Fall

Obligatory
15maudlin of the Well
Part the Second

Well, this makes up for Blue Lambency Downward. Toby still knows how to be accessible and challenging at the same time
16 Cursive
Mama, I'm Swollen

There's a hole in the floor, as black as my mama's womb, those were the days
17A Sunny Day In Glasgow
Ashes Grammar

In competition with Embryonic for "Long-as-shit" album of the year. This wins because oh my god it's so catchy and dreamy and nice and aghhhh
18Bon Iver
Blood Bank

No really, this was released this year, remember? Remember when "Woods" was controversial??
19Spires
Flowers and Fireworks

Written too much about this too, better than anything SeaAnemone's reviewed in the past month
20Volcano Choir
Unmap

Well hey Justin Vernon fancy seeing you here again
21 Kreng
L'Autopsie Phenomenale De Dieu

Scary shit right here. Like psychologically. Seriously don't listen to this album.
22P.O.S.
Never Better

FUCK IT BACK TO THE WALL CRUSH IT LAUGH AT EM ALL HUSH LET EM TRY TO FIND THE BEAUTY IN YOUR FACE
23 Kiss Kiss
The Meek Shall Inherit What's Left

kooky little buggers
24Trophy Scars
Bad Luck

Another two weeks with this album this would have ended up top 15 probably.
25Harvard
The Inevitable and I

There are a lot of albums I was considering putting here, but I liked this one the best, even though it's less of an artistic achievement or a cool revival or a fun dancey album as what's on the outside looking in. Just really chill, well constructed stuff.
