LegendofPittman
03.03.10 | Heres a few of my favorite Christian bands. Other than Zao and Showbread probably the only good Christian bands. |
TRMshadow
03.03.10 | Other Good Christian Bands (or band members consist completely of Christians):
Extol
Oh, Sleeper
He is Legend
As I Lay Dying
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Living Sacrifice
Children 18:3
I think someone in thrice is one too. |
LegendofPittman
03.03.10 | Ah yes, I forgot about Oh, Sleeper, As I Lay Dying and Maylene. I have heard a little of He is Legend but not the others. Yeah, both Dustin and Teppei are Christians. |
Yotimi
03.03.10 | My top 3 would be:
Sufjan Stevens
Danielson
Watashi Wa
Maybe mewithoutYou
|
BigTuna
03.03.10 | He is Legend isn't a Christian band. Thrice is awesome. |
bloc
03.03.10 | 1 and 5 are Christian? |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | yes |
bloc
03.03.10 | Well I'll be damned... |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | lol |
TRMshadow
03.03.10 | As a christian I can say the whole genre of "christian rock" is still active because it is supported by strict parents. If the parents of the listeners were a little more open to what their kids could listen to I'm pretty sure 90% of the bands would fail (although mixed in are a few pretty good bands that can stand on their own, like the ones on this list).
Definitely Check out He is Legend's "I Am Hollywood" it's a solid 4.5. Extol is Death Metal, if you don't like stuff like Opeth or DT you probably won't like them. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | the "Christian" label is sooo ambiguous |
Lions
03.03.10 | mewithoutYou, Manchester Orchestra, As Cities Burn, Thrice, Brand New, Colour Revolt(?) all rule. coming from a strict christian background and questioning God your whole life, these bands are super relatable. plus they make great music regardless. |
Masochist
03.03.10 | Yeah, 1 and 5 are Christian. And this is an excellent list; love that #3 is 'Catch For Us...' as opposed to 'Brother, Sister'.
No love for Anberlin or Mae? Both are questionable as "Christian" bands, but I love 'em all the same. Copeland, too.
Let's see...there's also:
Becoming The Archetype
Beloved
Blindside
Demon Hunter (much maligned, but they're one of my personal favorites)
Mute Math (supposedly)
My Epic
Norma Jean
Red
Starflyer 59
...that I enjoy. You might check some of those guys out if you haven't already. |
LegendofPittman
03.03.10 | I understand what you guys mean about the Christian label and I feel the same, but I mean they people in these bands are Christian without a doubt.
I am not into death metal so I probably wouldn't like it lol.
Mae and Anberlin are decent, but just a little too poppy for my taste.
Norma Jean is decent, but Mute Math has Christian members? |
LegendofPittman
03.03.10 | the* |
bloc
03.03.10 | There's no problem, I looooooooove Christian music. The lyrics are so inspiring as long as they are not too preachy. |
DoubtGin
03.03.10 | what about La Dispute? i always get the feeling they are when I listen to them. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | Masochist, what do you think of the new DH tracks? |
Masochist
03.03.10 | Mute Math is a Christian band. At least, they were on their first album. Listen to "Chaos," "Control," "Noticed" and "You Are Mine" again...it becomes ridiculously apparent. |
Buccaneer
03.03.10 | Trouble's a good Christian Doom band |
TRMshadow
03.03.10 | "But He is Legend isn't a Christian band"
that's why I said (or band members consist completely of Christians)
MO and Brand New are Christian? I'm sure the 2nd isn't |
Masochist
03.03.10 | Demon Hunter tracks...mixed feelings. The heavier ones are awesome, but I think the band has conceded to complacency in regards to how they make their music: make a couple of ballads, some really heavy tracks, and the rest follow the same basic structure that has sold them albums since "Not Ready To Die"...at least, that's my opinion from what I've heard so far.
Not that I won't get it, and not that I won't enjoy it, but despite not hearing it, I feel I know exactly what to expect.
...except that title track. Man, that was awesome! Best song they've done in a long time. |
TRMshadow
03.03.10 | I'm So glad nobody is naming Flyleaf.........
DAMMIT!!!! |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | Did you hear Just Breathe Masochist? It went up today. My second favorite after the title track. |
Masochist
03.03.10 | I'm certain neither one of them are. Manchester Orchestra formed because the lead singer felt disenfranchised in his Christian School.
And I don't know why, but I hesitate to call Thrice a Christian band, though if they are, they're probably currently #1 for me (not by a large margin).
Oh...and Jon Foreman is climbing the ranks ever since discovering his solo stuff earlier this year. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | Andy Hull is very much a struggling Christian singing about those struggles. |
theacademy
03.03.10 | this jew fuckin loves tooth and nail.
list needs more stacie orrico, obviously |
Lions
03.03.10 | MO and Brand New I don't think they call themselves a "christian" band, but most of the good christian bands don't. But I know Brand New is composed of mostly christian members (if just Jesse), and MO comes from a very christian background and their lyrics deal with christian themes.
and I get that vibe about La Dispute in a way too, but I'm not sure. they never make any religious references or anything, but who knows. and My Epic is pretty solid. |
ninjuice
03.03.10 | "Mute Math is a Christian band."
I think Meany and a couple others are, but "band" I wouldn't be sure about. |
Masochist
03.03.10 | Big Tuna - Good damn song by these guys, might be my favorite so far! |
LegendofPittman
03.03.10 | I REALLY don't think Brand New is christian. They mention Jesus a lot, but I think they mean it in a "why aren't you doing anything" kind of way. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | ^ yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's pretty un-DH, which in this case is a great thing. |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | my comment @ Masochist |
Masochist
03.03.10 | Big Tuna - Very much so! Synth actually sounds good in this one, and it has energy even in the lower-tempo. Is that a guest vocalist in the hook, or is that Ryan trying out a new growl? Hmmm.... |
BigTuna
03.03.10 | It's a guest vocalist, the vocalist from Scar Symmetry and Miseration. Actually, Collapsing has guest vocals from the vocalist in Soilwork. I like when I hear that DH is collaborating with bands like Soilwork and Miseration...maybe their headed in a different direction after this. But, I doubt it, they have waaaaay too many fans who love their current sound. |
1drummer
03.03.10 | Needs more Burzum and Vital Remains |
cirq
03.03.10 | POD? |
DeafMetal
03.03.10 | In one of the live Manchester tracks I have, he says "God bless" at the end of the song. Definitely not a Christian band, just have some Christian themes I think. If you like Jon Foreman, check out Fiction Family (side-project with Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek). Nickel Creek is also a great band (one of my favorites) with some Christian themed songs. |
Emim
03.03.10 | Becoming the Archetype
Living Sacrifice
Inhale/Exhale
Tourniquet
Antestor
The Ascendicate
POD
Disciple
Gwen Stacy
Newsboys
No Innocent Victim
Once Nothing
Point of Recognition
Project 86
To name a few |
DeafMetal
03.03.10 | Gwen Stacy -_- |
DeafMetal
03.03.10 | Copeland is also a great Christian themed band. |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | Gwen Stacy is the most generic Christian metalcore act I've ever heard, i'm sorry |
DeafMetal
03.03.10 | "Gwen Stacy is the most generic Christian metalcore act I've ever heard, i'm sorry"
Gwen Boring is more like it. |

03.03.10 | i saw them open up for unearth and protest the hero, and i couldn't stop laughing |

03.03.10 | TDWP |

03.03.10 | Haha, more like Gwen Are They Going To End Their Set! |
intothepit83
03.03.10 | more like "Where's the Green Goblin to take her away!" |
DeafMetal
03.03.10 | Right on m/ |
Masochist
03.04.10 | Deaf Metal - I keep meaning to Fiction Family, because I like Jon Foreman and love Nickel Creek, as well. |
Emim
03.04.10 | I'm just giving a list of bands, not everyone finds Gwen Stacy boring. |
DeafMetal
03.04.10 | Masochist - Yeah man, it's a great album. Nice to see other Nickel Creek fans. Not really too many on Sputnik.
Emim - Just jokes, man. Gwen Stacy's just not my cup. |
Emim
03.04.10 | I know, js |

03.04.10 | Skillet. (Really just Comatose, but still...)
|
jcfiasco
03.04.10 | whole lack of anberlin up there |
tiesthatbind
03.04.10 | The members of Paramore are Christian too.
I'll throw in Decyfer Down and 12 Stones even though they aren't too well-liked here. |
Emim
03.04.10 | Decyfer Down just came up on shuffle actually. |
tiesthatbind
03.04.10 | Nice. I still throw on Crash from time to time, good stuff. |
BrahTheSunGod
03.04.10 | I still have a soft spot for 12 Stones; they helped me start to get out of generic mainstream rock way back when. And their guitarist is damn good.
Jon Foreman/Fiction Family for sure. Love his work. |
Emim
03.04.10 | "And their guitarist is damn good."

tiesthatbind
03.04.10 | Yep, Eric Weaver is a beast. Even got his own song on the first album. |
AmericnZero02
03.04.10 | 4 and 5 rule. 1 is solid too. I might just have to check out 2 and 3 since it seems like a good half of my library is christian. |
Masochist
03.04.10 | jcfiasco - We talked a bit about Anberlin somewhere in the comments. The OP said that they were just a bit too poppy for his tastes...oh, well. I adore them, though.
tiesthatbind - First heard Decyfer Down when I saw them at a festival last year...not bad. 12 Stones, yeah, still have their first album. They're like Kutless in that they helped me get into heavier Christian music...and if I'm honest with myself, deep down, I still have a soft spot for a couple of s/t Kutless songs ("Your Touch," anyone?).
someguest - Good call!
There are a couple of other bands that are worth a mention, including:
Akissforjersey
Anchor & Braille
The Classic Crime
Far-Less
Fair
Stretch Arm Strong
...all of which I recommend to LegendofPittman to check out, with the exception of Anchor & Braille and Fair. |
Masochist
03.04.10 | (And the exceptions are because they both fall into the Mae/Anberlin category. Still...if you're in the mood, definitely give them a listen.) |

06.26.10 | LOL. Believing in god. Have you even considered how plagiarized EVERYTHING Christian is? Seriously, don't go down that road unless you want to become one of us. |
Dryden
06.26.10 | are you really laughing out loud when you type that |
acorncheese
06.26.10 | Lol, it is pretty funny. Hey, let's all believe in some Mesopotamian and ancient Egyptian knockoffs because they're all gathered into one enormous, plagiarized book. |
Emim
06.26.10 | First of all, The Showdown do NOT blow chunks.
Secondly, I'm pretty sure acorncheese has a wall to be hitting his head against. |
acorncheese
06.26.10 | I'll get right on that. |

06.26.10 | You have much time to make up for. |
acorncheese
06.26.10 | I'll hit my head against the wall until I'm brain dead enough to believe in "god." |
Emim
06.26.10 | Well, it's capitalized in the first place: "God".
And if you had ever even studied the Egyptian religion(s), you would know how stupid of a statement that was. |
acorncheese
06.26.10 | Yeah, because the story of Jesus Christ isn't a knockoff of Egypt's Horus. OOOOOOOK. I don't capitalize god because A) "he" (lol, giving it a gender) isn't my god B) "he's" 100% fictional. Enjoy that false sense of security, brah. |

06.26.10 | It's not my false sense of security ;) |
