Year Of The Black Rainbow Ranked

Because i'm cool. Album is a grower and a solid 4/5 for me right now. Fucking difficult one to rank and there might be a fw fluctuations.
1Coheed and Cambria
The Black Rainbow

I struggle to even call this a song...it's more of a denouement than anything. That said I believe this to
be
the most emotionally draining song Coheed have ever written. Right when that lead guitar comes in at
2:18 i'm just overcome with a feeling of hopelessness. Call me crazy but this whole climax section
reminds
me of a Godspeed climax, minus the bombast. It just gives me a similar feeling that I can't quite
pinpoint.
Beautiful ending to the album, and the way it cuts off right at the end is marvelous.
2In the Flame of Error

This song reminds me of Good Apollo 1 if Good Apollo 1 had kickass dark/progressive songs (sans The
Willing Well series). One of the more progressive cuts on the album. The instrumentation is strong
throughout the chorus is memorable. The bridge may be the best part of the song though. Just an
awesome and well-rounded song.
3Guns of Summer

A clusterfuck of instrumental technicality. Claudio's more laid back vocal approach reminds me of
Second
Stage Turbine Blade in this one, which is a nice touch and contrasts with the crazy instrumentals.
4World of Lines

The catchiest motherfucking song Coheed and Cambria have ever written. Seriously. The chorus makes
me want to throw down.
5Here We Are Juggernaut

The "screams" in the verses and most especially the chorus make the song. I'd go so far to say this is
Coheed's best single.
6Pearl of the Stars

Absolutely gorgeous acoustic ballad with the band's most well-placed guitar solo. This should probably
be
higher than 6th actually but I'm too lazy to change everything.
7The Broken

This is where it really starts to get tricky for me to rank. Gah I can't believe i'm putting this 7th. You've
all
heard this one most likely, absolutely epic vocals from Claudio but instrumentally it's slightly
unmemorable.
8Made Out of Nothing (All That I Am)

Another sugary song built around it's poppy hooks. The group vocals at the end of the song ("Made out
of
nothiiiing etc) are sure to make this a live-favorite.
9Far

A sugary, synthy electro-ballad. I didn't like it much at first but it grew on me, it's very well-written for
what it is.
10This Shattered Symphony

The lead in to the chorus "COME ON AND GIVE ME THE GUUUN" is intense and really pumps me up.
Unfortunately the rest of the chorus seems a bit disjointed and melodramatic to me. Song is a bit
disjointed as a whole actually but is still solid.
11When Skeletons Live

A solid song with a catchy chorus, it just doesn't stand out like the rest of the album. This would have
fit in
on No World For Tomorrow.
12One

Well it's just an ambient intro, but it sets the mood perfectly.
