04.26.10 | Just my opinion. Any recs would be apreciated. Also, I haven't yet listened to Carcass' Heartwork album. I should do that. |
Crysis
04.26.10 | I'd be hard-pressed to call 9 melodic death. It's definitely progressive. |
Klekticist
04.26.10 | ok, im going to the get the obvious out of the way. opeth.
props for 1. love tht album. |
bloc
04.26.10 | 1 isn't melodic either, it's CRAZY. |
Crysis
04.26.10 | lol Opeth aren't melodic death in the slightest Klekticist |
vanderb0b
04.26.10 | I find Opeth to be more prog metal than melodeath, Klekticist, but they're great.
1 and 9 probably aren't melodeath either, now that I think about it... |
Klekticist
04.26.10 | strange, i've always considered them melodeath.
EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE |
Crysis
04.26.10 | Their genre is progressive extreme metal... or something.. |
Klekticist
04.26.10 | yet they're undeniably melodic.... |
Crysis
04.26.10 | Keep in mind though melodic + death metal =/= melodic death metal |
vanderb0b
04.26.10 | Oh, they definitely have melody |
Klekticist
04.26.10 | Crysis, then what defines melodic death metal than death metal and (prominent) melody? |
Crysis
04.26.10 | That is what melodic death is, I'm just saying that not all bands that have elements of both melody and death metal are melodic death. |
PaperTigers
04.27.10 | Opeth is definitely a melodic death metal band - just not of the Gothenburg variety like these bands. |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | i'd say opeth is prog. melodeath, after all they would be a melodeath band if they didn't add all of the other weird yet awesome stuff |
somberlain
04.27.10 | needs:
Edge of Sanity-Purgatory Afterglow or Crimson
and no melodeath list is complete without At the Gates-Slaughter of the Soul |
SteelErectedb4you8er
04.27.10 | Edge of Sanity needs some definite love. I mean, they were one of the pioneers of melo-death. Spectral Sorrows and Purgatory Afterglow! |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | while i think SOTS is At the Gates' best, TSD is no slouch either |
Inveigh
04.27.10 | yea def needs Slaughter of the Soul, and once you hear Heartwork you'll wanna put that on here, it's awesome. I really like early Soilwork too, mainly The Chainheart Machine, but A Predator's Portrait is a close second. |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | ^yes to pretty much that entire comment |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | ...this needs insomnium |
somberlain
04.27.10 | "while i think SOTS is At the Gates' best, TSD is no slouch either"
yes but like the desc says it's waaay too short |
vanderb0b
04.27.10 | Can't believe I forgot Edge of Sanity. I prefer TSD to SOTS. Both are great, but I feel that TSD has better songwriting |
vanderb0b
04.27.10 | Alright, I fixed it. |
somberlain
04.27.10 | much better now with Purgatory Afterglow
Moontower is awesome but I'm not sure it fits into the melodeath category |
sspedding
04.27.10 | Much prefer Undoing Ruin to Deliver Us but fair play. |
vanderb0b
04.27.10 | I haven't hear Undoing Ruin yet, sspedding |
sspedding
04.27.10 | Trust me there are a few classics on there... |
TomServo
04.27.10 | no Insomnium??? |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | thats what i said |
ShadowRemains
04.27.10 | DT and Insomnium are both fantastic and should be on any melodeath list |
vanderb0b
04.27.10 | Josh, The Sound of Perseverance is one of my favorite albums, I just don't think Death is melodeath. Looking back at the list, 1 isn't exactly melodeath either. I haven't listened to Insomnium yet, but I definitely will |
InFiction
04.28.10 | Scar Symmetry are very good. |
mcg182
05.14.10 | Dude, like the other bands, but Atheist is melodic death metal. They're TECHNICAL death metal, with jazz fusion. God, I hate it when people keep confusing technical death metal with melodic death metal. To everybody, Opeth, Death, and Cryptopsy are technical death metal, not melodic, and In Flames, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity are melodic death metal, not technical. So fix your lists. |
ShadowRemains
05.23.10 | opeth? tech death?
lol no |
fatlip27
05.23.10 | Darkest Hour getting some love? Great! I just saw them live last month and they were fantastic opening up for The Dillinger Escape Plan.
However, if I were to put one album from them, it would be Hidden Hands of the Sadist Nation. But Deliver Us is also awesome. |
vanderb0b
05.23.10 | I haven't heard HHotSN yet, but I'll listen to it. I was going to see Darkest Hour live, but I couldn't make it to the show. |
austin888
11.08.10 | 1 is not melodeath. |
vanderb0b
11.08.10 | Yeah, I know. Made this list quite a while back, when I was pretty new to the genre. |
Maniac!
11.08.10 | Lol WTF. 1 isn't even close to melodeth |
Maniac!
11.08.10 | Oh this is an old list |
Counterfeit
11.08.10 | List was made like 7 months ago fag. |
witchxrapist
11.08.10 | lol

lol |
FadeToBlack
11.08.10 | why does that fag keep bumping old lists |
ShadowRemains
11.09.10 | cus he can't be satisfied with his own shitty lists |
Inveigh
11.09.10 | come on guys he's just doing his own thing
it's edgy |
Gorification
11.09.10 | 8 is good, 6 is really good, 5 and 4...classics in my book. and atheist...isnt melodeath, but still damn good. |
Ovrot
11.09.10 | 8 is really good. |
Counterfeit
11.09.10 | 7 months old guys |
