| 2010 Disappointments
I did a 2010 Surprises list yesterday, so here are my 2010 disappointments so far. I'm thinking we all know who number 1 is. | 5 | | Dark Tranquillity We are the Void
After releasing two amazing albums in "Character" and "Fiction," Dark Tranquillity may have been on the verge of taking the crown from At the Gates. However, with "We are the Void," DT seems to have severely backtracked and no longer has that fresh sound they've had in the past. It seems to be the same album they've done over and over again, but it gets tiresome after awhile. 2.5/5. | 4 | | Far At Night We Live
It's been quite a few years since we've heard anything from Far, but when a friend gave me a copy of his CD, my excitement quickly dwindled to disappointment. What was once a shining beacon of the post-hardcore genre seems to have lost a step in the twelve years since their last release. 2.5/5 | 3 | | Murs Fornever
I am not a "leading" source for hip-hop here on Sputnik by any sense, but I do know potential when I see it. Murs is exactly that. After a pretty stellar release with "Murs for President" in 2008, everyone thought this might be the next big thing in hip-hop. While "Murs for President" showed promise, "Fornever" fails to follow up. It just sounds like there wasn't any effort whatsoever put into this, as the whole album sounds like filler tracks. 2/5 | 2 | | Bleeding Through Bleeding Through
As much as I despise a lot of today's "metalcore" scene, Bleeding Through seemed to be on the verge of breaking out of that mold and finding their own sound with "Declaration." The ST, however, is just another boring, generic release. It seems the band decided to take about two steps back instead of moving forward and continuing to find their own niche in the scene. 2.5/5 | 1 | | The Ocean Heliocentric
Afer the beautiful, nearly perfect release of "Precambrian" 3 years ago, much was expected from the Ocean. Unfortunately, they fail to deliver. They choose to over-experiment, and the album loses momentum quickly. 3/5 | |

05.26.10 | murs was always average to me. | Inveigh
05.26.10 | Murs was great in Living Legends, and I like The End of the Beginning and Murray's Revenge, and 3:16 is a near-classic. But Murs For President and Fornever are both the average; at least on President he was experimenting, Fornever is the opposite of a grower and the definition of mediocre (although 9th Wonder's beats are still a lot of fun).
Same for Bleeding Through and Dark Tranquillity, good list.
I like the new Far, but we'll see if it has staying power. | vanderb0b
