06.01.10 | I don't think I could do that... I have favorite bands from every decade since the 60's so I have no idea which one it'd be. |
Inveigh
06.01.10 | every decade had great music and awful music, but as time goes on we tend to forget the awful music (hence all those idiots who think music will never be as good as it was in the 60s).
that said, I don't know how your friend was using 80s Floyd and Aerosmith albums to argue that it was a good decade for music... |
FadeToBlack
06.01.10 | are you sure your friend didn't mean the 70s? |
buckfutter
06.01.10 | If you are gonna talk 90's, you need the Toadies in there. |
BigHans
06.01.10 | Aerosmith was absolutey atrociouis in the 80's. Every album you put on your list rules. I can't pick a decade however. I was born in the early 80's, grew up in the 90's, but always an appreciation for the older stuff. |
Counterfeit
06.01.10 | Pink Floyd sucked in the 80's..
and 90's no fucking question |
ndspitt914
06.01.10 | 90s is definitely the Best. RHCP, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Sublime, 3eb, Offspring, 311. I could live off only 90s music |
buckfutter
06.01.10 | the toadies- rubberneck.
If you haven't heard it, well..... you're a moron. |
Slipping Away
06.01.10 | 90's but I probably can't make an accurate judgment of anything pre-80's |
BigHans
06.01.10 | Best and worst parts of a few eras:
60's: Best: The rise of the Beatles, Stones, psychadelic rock, and Motown. Worst: cheesy Mom and Pa pop like "Don't Know Much About History," and "Sugar Sugar."
70's: Best: The rise of what is now considered classic rock, and metal. Worst: Disco, obviously.
80's: Best: Great decade for metal, nostalgic pop songs, rise of hip hop. Worst: The bad pop was horribly bad. Most would also include hair metal here but I worship it.
90's: Best: Grunge, great hard rock/metal in the early decade. Worst: Too many post grunge one hit wonders. Yeah, there are some nostalgic tracks but overall the late 90's paled in comparison to the early 90's. Also, rise of Nu Metal.

06.01.10 | ahh the famous decade debate. i'd have a pretty hard time ranking them but something I don't even have to hesitate about is that the 70's were unquestionably the best decade. 75% of the best rock ever released was during the 70's. i mean, come on, are you really putting up smashing pumpkins, foo fighters, alice in chains and nirvana against led zeppelin, pink floyd, black sabbath, queen, yes and deep purple? it's not even a contest. |
Parallels
06.01.10 | 1989-1992 was just pure bliss |
buckfutter
06.01.10 | Sumyunguy- Too bad you just named one genre of music. In the seventies, they had rock and disco, each had a few different variations. Look at the 90's as a whole and you will see how much more productive the decade was compared the to 70's. If you look past the 90's mainstream bullshit, you'll find much more enjoyable music. |
jesusjuice1179
06.01.10 | tbh i like the 00s more than any other decade |
MUNGOLOID
06.01.10 | probably the 90's simply because it was arguably the best decade for hip hop. |
SeaAnemone
06.01.10 | this doesn't work. stupid question because you're all trying to judge entire decades based on entirely different genres. it's dumb. By the way you guys DO realize the 90's had more genres than simply mainstream rock, right? ; ) |
BigHans
06.01.10 | 90's is definitely the best decade for Hip Hop IMO. |
Jaskolkaaa
06.01.10 | 90s had Get Up Kids, NFG's debut, Poison The Well, Sunny Day Real Estate, Grade...it goes on. |
sumyunguy
06.01.10 | I did name only one genre of music but it seems like rock is the biggest determining factor, i mean look at the albums on the list. and as far as rock goes, the 70s were unmatched. i mean COME ON. if I tried to list all the classic rock albums from the 70's the list would be over 200 items long. the 90s pretty much just had grunge (which I don't like), the pumpkins, radiohead and tool. true that the 70s weren't much for metal outside of sabbath and priest, or jazz or anything else really, but for purely rock the 70s are impossible to beat. |
acorncheese
06.01.10 | I'd definitely say 2000-2010. People tend to think about all of the shit pop that's on the radio, but really, there have been so many timeless albums released in the last ten years. I guess you could say the same about any decade. I'd personally say 2000-2010. |
sumyunguy
06.01.10 | when i said there were over 200 classic rock albums i didn't mean classic-rock, lol, i mean "classic" rock albums. |
FadeToBlack
06.01.10 | this argument is really pointless cause it all depends on what your genre of choice is. for me 90s win, but not for the reasons anyone else has stated... it was when death metal really started to blossom out and the second wave of black metal began |
chaos17
06.01.10 | 90's: Kyuss, Type O Negative, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins... |
Inveigh
06.01.10 | why has no one mentioned Thin Lizzy when talking about 70s rock? |
AngelofDeath
06.01.10 | 90s probably wins by a hair for me. Classic black metal, death metal, grunge, alt. rock, and hip-hop. |
Gmork89
06.01.10 | 90's for me, all of the grunge and Melodic death classics. Not to mention Townsend making some of his best stuff, the black metal, and of course the fact that mainstream music was enjoyable. |

06.01.10 | 00's |
ninjuice
06.01.10 | The 00s purely cause I didn't take music "seriously" until then. I was born at the end of the 80s, listened to mainly the radio until at least the beginning of the 00s (first CD I bought myself was Astro Lounge) and joined Sputnik in '06. |
therayder
06.01.10 | I'd probably say the second half of the 60s and the first half of the 70s (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc) |

06.01.10 | I'd say 2000-2010 because we've had more genres to choose from than any other decade, add that to the fact there are probably 10 times more bands now than in the 90s. Hell since myspace and purevolume, probably 100 times as many. |

06.01.10 | I'm probably biased since I am fairly young but my favorite decade is the 00's. |
