Favorite Coen Brothers Films

Love the Coen bros., getting rjacked/psyched/swolled/brospeak to see rtrue grit in a couple months, so I'm making this list. For rthe record 1-8 would pretty safely be in a list of my 25 rfavorite movies of all time.
1No Country For Old Men

This was the first Coen Bros. movie I saw in theatres, and it completely shifted my perspective about what I like about movies.
2The Big Lebowski

Seen it more than any other movie on this list, and I think it's hilarious. So should you.
3Fargo

I liked Will Macy in this. Fargo exemplifies their style best, I would say.
4Raising Arizona

So screwball. The writing is so good that it made Nick Cage into a likeable actor, a feat only to be later accomplished by Charlie Kaufman.
5Burn After Reading

What did we learn here?
6O, Brother Where Art Thou

I'm a dapper dan man, dammit.
7A Serious Man

Well acted, well written (like always). A dark comedy heavy on the dark.
8Barton Fink

Look upon me, I'll show you the life of the mind. John Goodman is really really good in this.
9Miller's Crossing

A great gangster film, more double crosses than a wonderbra. I love that expression.
10The Man Who Wasn't There

Beautiful film. I'm a little less than high on Billy Bob though.
11Intolerable Cruelty

Arguably their most mainstream feeling film, and most hated. I actually liked it, while I would expect more from the Coens, if you drop those expectations it's a pretty funny un-romcom.
12Blood Simple

Great for a first film, but it lacks the dialogue that makes Coen films so fun to watch for me.
13The Ladykillers

Should've been so good. Tom Hanks is playing a southern gentleman for goodness sakes. Not AWFUL, but very very mediocre.
14The Hudsucker Proxy

I didn't hate this movie. I just didn't get it. I can see they were going for that goofy 30's NYC dialogue, but I feel like it wasn't as well executed as the lampooning my homestate gets in Fargo, or the southern drawls found in No Country, O Brother, and Raising Arizona.
