2010 Digs
Some really good albums this time round. Finally "Au ellai" lost its spot as number 1, twice! There's some great releases that I still haven't looked into... |
1 | | Kno Death is Silent
4.5 - Southern Hip Hop from USA. I'm pleased to announce that right now, it's the to album on sputnik according to the charts. Don't know how long that will last, but it's good news. I reviewed it, and I really believe that its the best album of the year. The production is 5 star and the rhymes are really good. |
2 | | Enslaved Axioma Ethica Odini
4.0 - Progressive Metal/Black Metal from Norway. The Opeth of Black Metal. This is the first release i've heard from these guys, really awesome stuff. Was my number 1 until Death is Silent dropped. |
3 | | Menomena Mines
4.0 - Indie Rock from USA. My favourite indie rock album since Funeral. |
4 | | Adversarial All Idols Fall Before the Hammer
4.0 - Death Metal from Canada. DM album of the year. First two tracks are insane. The mix is friggin great |
5 | | Deerhunter Halcyon Digest
4.0 - Neo-Psychedelia/Indie Rock from USA. I think everybody has their own fave songs for this one. Album rules so much though |
6 | | Laurie Anderson Homeland
3.5 - Spoken Word/Art Pop from USA. Underrated as fuck. It's pretty much the perfect direction you could take if you were into your "ripened" years and wanted to keep making music. The sound here is ambient-esque with great storytelling and provocative narration. "It takes a long time for a mouse to realise he's in a trap, but when he does, something inside him never stops ticking." and "Ah America, we tipped it over, and then we sold it." 'Another Day in America' is one of the top songs of the year! Recommended |
7 | | Gnaw Their Tongues L Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante
3.5 - Dark Ambient/Noise from Netherlands. When you sit in a dark, quiet room giving your full attention to this album, it is pretty amazing. I've fallen asleep alot of times listening to this though, but the atmosphere/instrumentation created here is pure killer. |
8 | | Hypnos 69 Legacy
3.5 - Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock/Stoner Rock/Jazz from Belgium. Once a while, I listen to a Progressive album that doesn't blow. This is it. Fortunately, it has a groovy amount of Psychedelic and Stoner elements to make me headbang the whole way. The Black Sabbath-like vocals really kick ass and the release is just really excellent in both execution and experimentation. I'm only onw to have rated this so far, so get on board. |
9 | | Anais Mitchell Hadestown
3.5 - Contemporary Folk from USA. Interestingly enough, it's not so much her voice that carries this record but the interesting song choice and chords. |
10 | | Neil Young Le Noise
3.0 - Singer/Songwriter from Canada. tied between 3 and 3.5, i've given this album sooo many listens. Really great. Fave track: Peaceful Valley Boulevard |
11 | | Monarch Sabbat noir
3.0 - Drone Doom Metal from France. I'm the only one to have rated this. Really solid release from drone doom act that never fail to bring the riffs. |
12 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird
3.0 - Singer/Songwriter from Sweden. So this came out of nowhere and I just loved it. The dreamer rules. |
13 | | Accept Blood of the Nations
3.0 - Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal from Germany. |
14 | | Fyrnask Fjorvar ok Benjar
3.0 - Black Metal from fuck knows. Raw sound, pretty great. |
15 | | K11 Metaphonic Portrait: 1230 A.D.
3.0 - Dark Ambient/Drone from Italy. Good stuff |
16 | | Sarah McLachlan Laws of Illusion
3.0 - Pop from Canada. Took me a while to enjoy this one. Now it's one of my go-to 2010 albums when I feel like some nice female vocals |
17 | | Kvelertak Kvelertak
3.0 - Hardcore Punk from Norway. I know everyone already has this one, but if not, get it! |
18 | | Les Jumeaux Discordants Sang pour Sang
3.0 - Neoclassical Darkwave from Italy. Really dark and regal, often as this genre is. I'm the only one to have rated this, so if you like the genre, look into it. |
19 | | Locrian Territories
3.0 - Drone/Ambient/Dark Ambient/Noise from USA. Again, somebody else rate this. It's really solid. A few songs are a bit weaker at the start, but the album is among the best drone albums of the year. |
20 | | Adai Felo De Se
3.0 - Atmospheric Sludge Metal from USA. Epic direction on this EP, gonna watch what these guys do next. |
21 | | The Flashbulb Arboreal
3.0 - IDM from USA |
22 | | Hell Militia Last Station on the Road to Death
3.0 - Black Metal from France. Someone else should look into this one, really good BM |
23 | | Aderlating Devotional Hymns
3.0 - Dark Ambient/Noise/Ritual Ambient from Netherlands. Same dude that does Gnaw Their Tongues. Fucking good... |
24 | | Freddie Gibbs Str8 Killa
3.0 - Gansta Rap from Gary, Indiana. So it took me a while to realise that this is actually a different release to his mixtape, released on the same day. It has same songs, that didnt appear on his earlier free EP, and this time, he's fixed up the shitty production from his mixtape. So its more good stuff from my fave rapper. |
25 | | Blut aus Nord What Once Was... Liber I
3.0 - Black Metal/Atmospheric Black Metal from France. Not as good as last year's release. They're getting rawer again. This is pretty good, but I like the other sound. |
26 | | Akitsa Au crépuscule de l'espérance
3.0 - Black Metal from Canada. Really raw |
27 | | Remembrance Fall, Obsidian Night
3.0 - Funeral Doom Metal from France. Zoo isn't around to see me not putting this in my top ten, after he promised i would love it. Sorry Zoo, it's good but too simple at times |
28 | | Sufjan Stevens The Age of Adz
3.0 - Art Pop/Chamber Pop from USA. Better than the so-called EP. Really good at times. |
29 | | Lights Out Asia In the Days of Jupiter
3.0 - Post Rock from USA. USed to really like these guys, I thin post-rock is growing off me though. |
30 | | Hans Zimmer Inception
3.0 - Dark Ambient/Electronic from Germany. |
31 | | Josh Ritter So Runs the World Away
3.0 - Singer/Songwriter from USA. I like this one heaps at times and then at other times, it puts me to sleep... |
