11.27.10 | Yeah, I just fell asleep reading your summary, let alone an essay.
That's why I stick with my main man Jefferson when it comes to history. |

11.27.10 | Something that is really interesting is the election of 1800. That would be quite an essay. |

11.27.10 | Colonial America is boring as hell. Otherwise, best part about the Founding Fathers is that they were pretty much nothing like how conservatives would make you believe. |

11.27.10 | "Otherwise, best part about the Founding Fathers is that they were pretty much nothing like how conservatives would make you believe. "
That's one of my favorite things to discuss. I have written about it several times, but it's very annoying to constantly hear the way Fox News "journalists" portray them. |

11.27.10 | According to them, they were all Christian crusaders who wanted the Ten Commandments written into the Constitution but didn't do it for gosh darn reason. |

And interesting thing about the FF's is that they didn't want a democracy: however many other wondeful things they did, they were (to an extent) upper-class elitists, and didn't trust the common man to make big decisions like electing leaders. Democracy would've given the people that power, so they originally created the US as only a Republic. |

11.27.10 | to be fair, both sides of the political spectrum generally seem to mould their views of history into whatever they feel will support them best. And not all conservatives have machinations about the founding fathers, I certainly don't, though I'm not exactly conservative, more of fiscally conservative, socially moderate, depends on the issue with me really. Election of 1800 was pretty interesting, but at the time of my proposal I knew nothing about it and had 4 other essays, some of which far more complex, that made me just pick the first thing that came to mind and I find economic history somewhat intriguing. |
Josh D.
11.27.10 | Yeah, Glen Beck and his followers genuinely think that they meant for the US to be a Christian nation.
What a joke. |

11.27.10 | Our leaders now are much more Christian than most of the founding fathers.

11.27.10 | Stop saying both sides like it's either/or when you yourself just stated that you're moderate. Yes, I am generally more liberal but I still don't side myself with Democrats or leftists as a whole. |
Josh D.
11.27.10 | "depends on the issue with me really"
Me too, I don't affiliate with any one party. |

11.27.10 | a lot of them were against mob rule, basically because of French Revolution (more or less, at least), and it was an upper-class elitist revolution, and maybe a more general white man revolution. And to be fair to their decision, their anglicized populace would have no idea how to properly elect a president at the time because they had never done it, land requirements had forever been a part of political office/voting. |

11.27.10 | parties SUCK. The fact that we have such a strong two-party system is pretty depressing |

11.27.10 | "to be fair, both sides of the political spectrum generally seem to mould their views of history into whatever they feel will support them best."
Referring to that. I hate when people say "to be fair, both sides (insert flaw)". |
thebhoy
11.27.10 | oh, okay. Well I don't always do that, I just feel that both sides do actually alter history in their own ways, to their own benefits. In fact, politics alters everything on both sides, hence why we have conservative and liberal trajectories of history.
And Climactic, having more than two parties would mean nothing, look at Canada, there might as well only be two parties here. And having no parties is impossible, it wasn't even functional pre-party US (ie. like two elections or something). |
climactic
11.27.10 | Oh I know that, but I tend to side with liberals on social matters and conservatives on fiscal matters, so there's generally no politician/party I can side with since the system is so divided |

11.27.10 | I hope you know that conservatives (Bush and Reagan) are the main reasons our debt is so huge. |

11.27.10 | I suppose so, I don't know enough about recent (ie. post-1950's) economic history of the US to either agree or disagree with you and frankly my mind is to cluttered with other junk to care, like gender roles in renaissance literature and how twelfth night deconstructs the role of the female as object of male gaze, as seen in Spenser and Wyatt who construct the female through tropes, and even gives women a gaze of their own... my other essay. Ugh this weekend sucks. |
eternium
11.27.10 | I have no idea what you just said. |

11.27.10 | You could've written about the role of women in the 19th century secular movements. That is somewhat interesting. |

11.27.10 | exactly what I mean eternium.
I hate gender history tbh. I think it's an important field... just not one I have interest in. Plus the paper is due monday and I've written 3,000 words so no going back now. |

11.27.10 | honestly the essay won't be very interesting, but it's a very easy topic to support and overall you should get a good grade on it unless you really screw it up, which is pretty hard to do |
