12.05.10 | the trailer made it look like suspiria. is it anything like suspiria? |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Idk if it's like Suspiria because I haven't seen that movie, but you should just see Black Swan anyway cause it's awesome. |
Yotimi
12.05.10 | I'm sure it's 1 trillion times better than the awful Suspiria. |
MUNGOLOID
12.05.10 | would go see it if any of the theaters were showing it around here. |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | so jealous. No theaters in my area have it yet... I'm a huge Aronofsky fan.
It's pretty humorous to think about the fact that about 90% of good, intelligent movies are limited release only... pretty much the perfect indication of how idiotic the general viewing public in America is. Vampires Suck plays in every theater in the area on day 1 whereas Black Swan probably won't be here for a month. Even if you're not a cynic that's still pretty depressing. |
americanmusicmachine
12.05.10 | wtf yotimi suspiria is like the best movie ever.

12.05.10 | I know watcha mean Kubrick. I'm just lucky I live near Hollywood. They show like every movie here, it's awesome. |
thebhoy
12.05.10 | yeah Yotimi wtf. Dario Argento ftmfw.
I'm interested in seeing this. I think The Wrestler was Aronovsky's first really good film (I realize I'm in the minority on this, but I have my reasons), so I'm hoping he continues the storytelling ability he found on that film and does not revert back to just caricatures with film school camera tricks like his first few films. (yeah I said it) |
Yotimi
12.05.10 | lol, that scene is so bad, but is still by far the best part of the movie. I love the hilarious part when that girl jumps out the window and gets stuck in that barbed wire coil. She stands up like 3 times and then just falls down and gives up. |
Yotimi
12.05.10 | I mean there's a lot of color... |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Also, Black Swan is worth seeing just for the scene where Mila eats out Natalie. Yes, I'm perverted I know. |
Kubrick

You don't think Requiem for a Dream is as good as the Wrestler? I'll definitely grant you that Requiem is a little gimmicky with all the camera effects but it's still such an engrossing and powerful movie. The scene where Harry comes to visit his mom and tell her about buying her a new TV and then realizing she's addicted to her pills.. man that scene is one of the most powerful scenes in any movie I've ever seen. Just the way the mood shifts so quickly from joyous and bright to exposing each of the character's deepest flaws and insecurities is so well done. Like you all of a sudden realize exactly what his mom is going through and why she cares so much about the dress and the TV and the superficialities.. because she has nothing left to care for and no one to that cares for her. A lot of the reason why the scene is so successful is because the acting is superb but it is still expertly directed and crafted. Oh and the Wrestler is amazing too.. just a lot more understated. |
Yotimi
12.05.10 | Yeah, both are amazing |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | I love Requiem for a Dream. One of my favorite movies. The ending is so heartbreaking, I almost cried. |
EyesWideShut
12.05.10 | Black Swan looks amazing and im dying to se it. Requiem is great, but The Wrestler for me was damn near perfect and is my fav Aronofski film. |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | How the fuck did Rourke not win the Oscar for that?? Total bs. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | I still need to see the Wrestler. I'm just not a fan of Rourke, he pissed me off in Iron Man 2. |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | He's brilliant in The Wrestler.. again it's a really subtle, understated performance... but definitely brilliant. Honestly the movie seems so real that you almost question yourself if it is really a documentary. |
TMobotron
12.05.10 | it wont matter what your opinion or rourke is for that movie, you should love it regardless. I like requiem most though. clint mansell is fucking awesome too. i actually like the fountain soundtrack the best. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | I guess I have to see it soon then. I've only heard great things so it should be good. |
TMobotron
12.05.10 | i feel like its not as good as requiem, but its also not as dividing as requiem in that most people should be able to really like the wrestler, where a lot of people love requiem but there are some people who can't stand it.
I've only seen the wrestler once though and it was awhile ago i need to re-watch it because i really did like it. |
EyesWideShut
12.05.10 | Rourke got robbed at the Oscars that year. It would be intresting to see if he can return to serious acting instead of Iron Man 2 and The Expendables. |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | There's actually a decent number of people I know that didn't like The Wrestler.. mainly because was "too boring." I get what you mean though.. Requiem is much more polarizing because it's more graphic and disturbing. The Wrestler is more of a movie that anyone can watch, but emotionally it is just as dark. It's definitely a slow-paced movie with not much going on at any one point.. but you liked 2001 A Space Odyssey so that probably won't be an issue for you vmcoia haha. |
TMobotron
12.05.10 | yeah actually i know people who didnt like the wrestler as well but thats just because aronofsky makes movies that arent meant for everyone, but as far as his go i think the wrestler is the one that could be most universally liked. |
EyesWideShut
12.05.10 | The people that i know that didnt like The Wrestler were to busy raving about Transformers 2, so go figure?? |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | how's marisa tomei in the Wrestler? |
EyesWideShut
12.05.10 | George Costanza would still have a hard on.. |
Yotimi
12.05.10 | "George Costanza would still have a hard on" - lol nice |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | hahaha love that Seinfeld episode! |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | Marisa Tomei is very good as well.. she got nominated for an Oscar too if I remember right. Slightly less deserving than Rourke though.. she played her part very well but it wasn't as nuanced a character as Rourke's. Definitely not stereotypical or anything, but not as many layers. Transformer 2 was so fucking awful... I honestly don't even remember what happened in the movie. It was just 2.5 hours of loud noises and FX... you pretty much forget it even existed after you walk out. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | yeah Transformers 2 sucked big time. I hate Shia and Megan Fox. |

12.05.10 | lmao i dont like south park a lot of the time but thats pretty damn funny |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | hahaha shyamalan. If there's such a thing as a one-hit-wonder director he's it.
Ok ok.. maybe Signs wasn't totally worthless but it wasn't great either. |
TMobotron
12.05.10 | unbreakable was awesome too. i dont think hes a one-hit-wonder because i loved his first 3, i just think he's completely lost it. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Not a fan of shylamalan at all. The Sixth Sense was way overrated in my opinion. |
Kubrick
12.05.10 | Haha yeah, when I say Signs wasn't totally worthless I mean more in terms of atmosphere and intrigue... as far as logic is concerned it definitely doesn't fair very well.
@TMobotron- Oh yeah I totally forgot about Unbreakable.. yeah that wasn't bad either. I guess it's a bit extreme to call him a one-hit-wonder.. but all the hate he gets now is pretty well deserved. He has clearly expended whatever creativity he had initially. Instead of progressing and evolving.. he basically tried to duplicate his past successes to the point where his new films are essentially parodies of his first ones. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Yup. It is truly great especially when they are making out with each other. |
cvlts
12.05.10 | what the fuck was that about in the previews when portman pulled that shit out've her back? freaked me the fuck out. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Yeah that freaked me out too when I saw it in the theater. |
cvlts
12.05.10 | yes |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | no, pluse there's a scene where Mila is eating out Portman's pussy. No nudity, but the scene is still pretty hot. |

12.05.10 | vmcoia's gettin me hot & bothered... Heps not helpin. |
vmcoia91
12.05.10 | Yeah Justine Frischmann is atractive. I wouldn't say hot though. |

12.05.10 | Good luck with that. The movie is only playing a few theaters for the time being. |

12.06.10 | @Kubrick
I didn't really find the characters that engrossing in Requiem, and I think I compare it to a movie like Trainspotting (which isn't really fair probably) and I just see how much better the characters are portrayed in that film. I don't know I loved the subtlety of The Wrestler, it's more of a personal preference. |
vmcoia91
12.06.10 | Requiem for a Dream>>>>>>>>>>>Trainspotting. Then again I just really don't like Trainspotting, massively overrated. |
EyesWideShut
12.07.10 | I got Trainspotting over Requim, but that cause of the humour and my liking of Irvine Welsh books. Both good though. |
Athom
12.07.10 | hollywood. so you're a local. I want to see it so bad but i dont want to pay Archlight prices. |
