12.09.10 | New Scientist had a cover story along these lines a couple years back. Only seemed worthwhile on a philosophical level. |

12.09.10 | no... it... is not... most likely anyway... you know I could be wrong... but I don't think I am, at least not this time... no. |

12.09.10 | we talked about that a little bit on the "Getting to know some of the users" list. Some of the evidence is pretty interesting, and I don't think the question has any philosophical implications simply because even if the answer is "yes" it doesn't really change our situation. |
Deathcar
12.09.10 | The music on this list is so awesome, I need to go listen to it rather than read the article. |
Butkuiss
12.09.10 | I believe Scar Symmetry had a song/album about that concept. But in reality, I have no clue. Interesting idea though. |

12.09.10 | I just got through a book called "The Infinite Book" By John D. BArrows, and he mentions this a couple of times in one chapter. Pretty interesting stuff. |

12.09.10 | yeah good point Willie. kind of sucks with all these amazing things science is discovering but it really wont make a difference in our life times. |

12.09.10 | so is the article just a hologram |
Winsomniac
12.09.10 | Strange how it asserts that so many once-thought simple processes are far more complex than they're perceived to be, yet dares to sum the Universe up in the traits of a hologram.
Wrong, but an interesting step forward. |

12.09.10 | is hip hop just a euphamism for a new religion |

12.15.10 | It's so fucking true, though. It makes perfect sense. It should even make more sense if you believe in god (which I don't, only huge-ass holograms). |

12.15.10 | Hey willie you know any good books? I'm wanting to get a brief history of time and also his new one. Also was thinking of getting the elegant universe. Do you do much reading or know of other good ones? |
Willie
12.15.10 | The last one I read was called "The Gods of Eden" by William Bramley and is about how we were created by a race of Aliens. The first half of the book is really cool, but the second half kind of loses focus. |
Thane
12.15.10 | Mindfuck indeed. Very interesting read, thanks Brick. Also, lots of good stuff on the list. |
AnotherBrick
12.15.10 | that definitely sounds interesting Willie, thanks man. |
Zanders
12.15.10 | Willie, I have actually read some excerpts from "The Gods of Eden". Every alien astronaut theory I have heard is severely flawed and filled with pseudo-archeology and pseudo-science.
They make the mistake of interpreting everything to fit what they want and ignore the historical and archeological contradictions it causes. Way too much speculation without evidence. And the "evidence" they usually list is either circumstantial or speculative at best.

Zanders
12.15.10 | AnotherBrick, you want me explain just where all of the individual alien astronaut theories are wrong?
I already said that all of the ones I have seen have fallen victim to cherry picking facts and ignoring important details that contradict their theories. They also misinterpret scientific information to conform to their hypotheses. I'm not talking about the hologram thing, just the ancient astronaut theory.
More importantly, you might aught to present some good proof as to why they are right. The burden of proof is on them. So far they haven't found anything that couldn't be explained in a more logical and rational manner.

Willie
12.15.10 | @Zanders: That's basically what I'm talking about. The first half of the book deals with the ancient races and their lore, and it's easy to fit that into his theories. The second part tries to bring it into the present by saying that certain "secret societies" are the current extension of the aliens' control and it's all over the place (basically cherry picking the 'facts' that he wants to use). |
Electric City
12.16.10 | The time it takes to get from one star to another star is... and see, you need to travel at the speed of light. And us humans can't even... fathom the concept of that kind of time because it's really really really really really really really really fun! To think about taking a speed of light ride. |
