Gonna keep it short and sweet, no fucking around with a 100 album list for me.
10Dark Time Sunshine
Vessel

Best hip hop release of the year. Highlight is definitely the production, really unique.
9Ihsahn
After

This album may not have made the list if not for the fact that it was so criminally overlooked. Ihsahn does something great here, but I guess cause his last 2 albums sucked no one checked this out. While this album has its flaws, most notably seeming a little forced at its heaviest moments, it features some great composition, with strong transitions, and great melodies. I loved the way the sax was integrated on this album as well, it just takes the biggest moments and makes them even bigger. Another thing that was cool about this album was to see Ihsahn move away from his neoclassical and avant garde tendencies and embrace his love of 70's prog and jazz.
8The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild Hunt

I bought into the Sputnik hype train on this one and damn was it worth it.
7Deftones
Diamond Eyes

Deftones are the band that got me into heavier music over a decade ago and it's great to see they're showing no signs of slowing down.
6Max Richter
Infra

This isn't as good as The Blue Notebooks but simpler and more emotionally moving.
5Swans
My Father will Guide me up a Rope to the Sky

I wasn't sure what to expect from a Swans comeback, but Michael Gira really delivers on this one. Not their best work but it still rules.
4Gnaw Their Tongues
L Arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante

Atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere
3The National
High Violet

Everything that needs to be said about this album has already been said.
2Deathspell Omega
Paracletus

DsO return with a more focused, less pretentious, and somewhat more accessible album than their last few offerings, resulting in their best work to date IMO.
1 Anathema
We're Here Because We're Here

Anathema reinvent themselves as an atmospheric rock band and the result is pure awesome.
