| Best Metallica Albums
My favourite Metallica albums. Based purely on my tastes. | 1 | | Metallica Ride the Lightning
Has some fairly dodgy tracks in 'Trapped Under Ice' and 'Escape' but has my
three favourite 'tallica songs of all time, 'Fade to Black', 'Creeping Death' and
'For Whom the Bell Tolls' | 2 | | Metallica Master of Puppets
Has the best of all Metallica's instrumental tracks, 'Orion' and classics in
'Welcome Home' and the title track ('Battery' to a certain extent). Loses its
way a little with the last few tracks though. | 3 | | Metallica Metallica
Like it or lump it, this album has been incredibly successful and has the most
number of tracks consistently played throughout their tours. "Sad But True"
has one of the greatest openings as does 'Enter Sandman' with a rare Kirk
Hammet riff. Special mention to 'The Unforgiven'. I don't understand tracks like
'Holier' and 'Through the Never' though, were they trying to stick to their
roots with those two? Poor effort if so. | 4 | | Metallica ...And Justice for All
Apart from St. Anger, the most unfriendly sound of all the albums, the reverb
is just completely screwed here. Great opener in 'Blackened', severely
underrated in my opinion. 'One' is a true classic as we all know. The title track
has the listener wondering when the track is going to end, if ever. Severe plagiarism in 'Frayed Ends' much?! | 5 | | Metallica Kill 'Em All
Part of their, 'we can play quicker than them' stage (referring to other Thrash
Metal bands). Contains epics like 'Four Horseman' and 'Seek and Destroy', and
a personal favourite of mine especially when played live, 'Hit the Lights' (love
the Hetfield scream). Overall, an album that really had no direction and wasn't
going anywhere. The worst instrumental as well in 'Pulling Teeth'. | 6 | | Metallica Load
Above Death Magnetic because it was where the band was at, at the time, and
the world for that matter. Really epic songs in 'Until it Sleeps' and 'King
Nothing' as well as all the saliva that ended up in the mike during recording
from Hetfield when he was spitting the lyrics. Trails off very abruptly. In my
opinion 'Mama Said', worst 'tallica song, ever. | 7 | | Metallica Death Magnetic
Trying to go back to their roots, queue applause. But miserably failing, queue
groaning. Songs are too long, tedious and some of the worst lyrics of all time,
none more evident than the title, "Death Magnetic", what the hell does it
mean? | 8 | | Metallica St. Anger
An album with a lot of potential... so much potential. Better sound quality and
shorter songs would have this in the top 5. Lars' strongest drumming effort,
only you can't hear it over what sounds like a steel-on-steel snare drum. | 9 | | Metallica ReLoad
The less said about this, the better. Great opening with 'Fuel' slowly fades until
we get to 'Unforgiven II', then abruptly fades again. Why Hetfield quoted
himself in 'Memory Remains' still astounds me. | |

04.20.11 | About 8, Lars plays with fucking aluminum sticks. It makes his drums and cymbals sound terrible but he likes to play loud as shit and they sure as fuck help. Some people like that, I personally think he's a cock-gobbler and his need to play loud is a complex he developed from being five foot tall. | theacademy

04.20.11 | I would swap Load and Reload on the list, basically because I believe that no big hit of theirs comes to mind from Load. Re load has essentially they're biggest song on there with Fuel, as well as another great song as The Memory Remains. Death Magnetic should be way up there. I think that after they're three shit albums (Load, Reload and St Anger), they finally went back to their older roots, putting out a similar sort of song pattern like Fade to Black with The Day That Never Comes. I would definitely have put it up there as number 5, not 7. | bowlofsoup
04.20.11 | I agree completely with 1. 3 would be lower for me though | JamieTwort

04.20.11 | Haha. Ride The Lighting is still one of my favourite records of all time, even though the drumming is weak. | BigHans
04.20.11 | I could care less about the technical prowess of Lars drumming, or if Mustaine or Marty Freidman were better guitar players than Hetfield and Hammet. Metallica are the greatest metal band ever because they are by far the greatest song writers in the history of the genre. | thumbcrusher

04.20.11 | This band's productivity rate is actually ridiculously bad. Nine albums across THIRTY PLUS YEARS?! They should at least have had three more. | Hammersharf
04.20.11 | What about their latest albums? Death Magnetic vs. Endgame? Megadeth has got the win here. | Tyrael
04.20.11 | 3 more 'load-reload-St. Anger'-like albums? No thanks. | dnor

04.20.11 | Nah man then where would MASTER OF fucking PUPPETS have come from???? | Hammersharf
04.20.11 | They should have disbanded after the Black Album, then everyone would be happy |
