Best Metallica Albums

My favourite Metallica albums. Based purely on my tastes.
1Metallica
Ride the Lightning

Has some fairly dodgy tracks in 'Trapped Under Ice' and 'Escape' but has my
three favourite 'tallica songs of all time, 'Fade to Black', 'Creeping Death' and
'For Whom the Bell Tolls'
2Metallica
Master of Puppets

Has the best of all Metallica's instrumental tracks, 'Orion' and classics in
'Welcome Home' and the title track ('Battery' to a certain extent). Loses its
way a little with the last few tracks though.
3Metallica
Metallica

Like it or lump it, this album has been incredibly successful and has the most
number of tracks consistently played throughout their tours. "Sad But True"
has one of the greatest openings as does 'Enter Sandman' with a rare Kirk
Hammet riff. Special mention to 'The Unforgiven'. I don't understand tracks like
'Holier' and 'Through the Never' though, were they trying to stick to their
roots with those two? Poor effort if so.
4Metallica
...And Justice for All

Apart from St. Anger, the most unfriendly sound of all the albums, the reverb
is just completely screwed here. Great opener in 'Blackened', severely
underrated in my opinion. 'One' is a true classic as we all know. The title track
has the listener wondering when the track is going to end, if ever. Severe plagiarism in 'Frayed Ends' much?!
5Metallica
Kill 'Em All

Part of their, 'we can play quicker than them' stage (referring to other Thrash
Metal bands). Contains epics like 'Four Horseman' and 'Seek and Destroy', and
a personal favourite of mine especially when played live, 'Hit the Lights' (love
the Hetfield scream). Overall, an album that really had no direction and wasn't
going anywhere. The worst instrumental as well in 'Pulling Teeth'.
6Metallica
Load

Above Death Magnetic because it was where the band was at, at the time, and
the world for that matter. Really epic songs in 'Until it Sleeps' and 'King
Nothing' as well as all the saliva that ended up in the mike during recording
from Hetfield when he was spitting the lyrics. Trails off very abruptly. In my
opinion 'Mama Said', worst 'tallica song, ever.
7Metallica
Death Magnetic

Trying to go back to their roots, queue applause. But miserably failing, queue
groaning. Songs are too long, tedious and some of the worst lyrics of all time,
none more evident than the title, "Death Magnetic", what the hell does it
mean?
8Metallica
St. Anger

An album with a lot of potential... so much potential. Better sound quality and
shorter songs would have this in the top 5. Lars' strongest drumming effort,
only you can't hear it over what sounds like a steel-on-steel snare drum.
9Metallica
ReLoad

The less said about this, the better. Great opening with 'Fuel' slowly fades until
we get to 'Unforgiven II', then abruptly fades again. Why Hetfield quoted
himself in 'Memory Remains' still astounds me.
