ZilbelPing 05.05.11	Word. My band started recording one song, ONE, on sunday and we are just going to finish it today. Kinda not my fault, though. Seeing as I finished tracking the first day.
MO 05.05.11	My band was also charged per song. Saved us buttloads in studio costs.
fr33convict 05.05.11	Honestly I'm surprised we're not paying more. We're recording with a friend (his dad has a studio) in Pro Tools 9 HD or some shit like that with professional grade mics and gear for $15 a song. Also, that's every instrument, not just one. The un-EQ'd, un-mixed drums already sound almost perfect to me.

Itwasthatwas 05.05.11	sounds like you got hooked up big time, but a lot of the reason why it's worth paying for studio time is for the expertise the engineer brings the worst thing about recording though is doing a million takes to get something perfect do you guys have any demos
Hyperion1001 05.05.11	I'm recording at home, we tried to mic amps and shit but that didn't work out so we just ended up using amp sims. Surprisingly you can get some pretty sweet tones out of those (it is bm though so the production values don't really need to be set that high).
ZilbelPing 05.05.11	Dude I'm jealous. We're paying 200$ per song at a friend's professional studio. Compared to 500$ the other locals in my area have payed per song, which are only two out of 30.

"do you guys have any demos" yup. the guitar solos are lolbad because i recorded them when i was fourteen and had only been playing for two years but it's basically the songs recording (well, we're not recording ruiner and untitled, but we're recording a new track instead and are saving those tracks for a second release.)

Yeah I used to record my guitar with one for our demos and once you figure out how to work them they're pretty good.
Itwasthatwas 05.05.11	yeah we did our old full length with amp sims and fully triggered drums. you can get really convincing high gain guitar tones with sims but you can't really get really responsive lead tones or mid gain sounds if you're going for a more organic sound. you can get convincing drum sounds with triggers and samples too but I wasn't a good enough engineer at the time and fucked it up. listening to your demo/EP now

UnnamedOcean 05.05.11	Recording can be hell. It seems every time my band tries to record, everything goes wrong. The interface stops working, audio files get erased from the computer, a microphone won't record, and the list goes on. It must be those damned poltergeists.

Chrisjon89 05.06.11	It is very expensive for quality studio time - band has to be on the ball and know their shit backwards. Also hopefully some of you are gear nerds - the other day I recorded vocals for a dude using a Neumann U87 into an Avalon 737. The result was amazing. Unbelieveable clarity and no real need to tweak EQ. That's thousands of dollars of gear and I can't compete at home with my SM58 and Pro Tools compressors.
FictitiousLandscape 05.06.11	I love recording. Well, from the production end anyway. You shouldn't be shocked at how long this is taking though. It's a difficult process, to ensure everything is proper.

fr33convict 05.07.11	A live recording is something I do want to try because I like the live feel of it, but for our first release we want half decent production. Not professional quality mind you (the guitars and drums where recorded "straight-shot" and we almost always used the first take), but the average music fan prefers Attack Attack production to lo-fi production. The goal of this release is really just to get our name out there, and if a better sounding (again, relatively good sounding since it's still going to sound worse than your average release) helps with that then I have no problem with it. Also, we're not compressing it to hell, autotuning it, and bass booms, and whatever else we COULD add. We don't play crabcore here.
