| Symphony X Albums Ranked | 8 | | Symphony X Symphony X
Yeah, this album sucks. The singer is just not that good of a fit for the music. | 7 | | Symphony X The Damnation Game
I really like the songs like Dressed to Kill, Savage Curtain and the Edge of Forever. Their closing song A
Winter's Dream is very well done, but other than these songs the band hasn't really gelled together. Still
worth checking out. | 6 | | Symphony X Twilight in Olympus
This album is dissapointing following DWOT, with mediocre songs like The Relic and In the Dragon's Den.
Church of the Machine is good, but the album is literally saved by the inclusion of Through the Looking Glass.
One of my all time favorite Symphony X songs. | 5 | | Symphony X V: The New Mythology Suite
Got some really good standout songs like Evolution, Fallen and Rediscovery. Good concept album, just runs
together a bit too much for me. | 4 | | Symphony X The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Great album. The 20 plus minute title song is very good. Of Sins and Shadows and Sea of Lies is such an epic
opening to this album. | 3 | | Symphony X Paradise Lost
This is the album that introduced me to the band, and to prog and power metal all at once. I love it. | 2 | | Symphony X The Odyssey
The title track is the best song this band has ever done, and I hope someday they make Accolade
III and complete the trilogy. | 1 | | Symphony X Iconoclast
I've listened to this nonstop for the last week, and right now its tied with Odyssey for best Symphony X
album. Seriously, this album has everything that make the band great. Two huge epics in Iconoclast and
When All is Lost, and some amazing songs like Reign in Madness and Electric Messiah. | |

06.17.11 | You like 1 that much? I haven't heard it yet. I'd probably rank them:
Divine Wings of Tragedy
New Mythology Suite
The Odyssey
Paradise Lost
Damnation Game (Really like it, underrated)
Twilight in Olympus (Through the Looking Glass is definitely one of, if not their best song though, I agree)
Self-titled | AngelofDeath
06.17.11 | The new album's not that good. | Demerick
06.17.11 | I suspect my opinion on Iconoclast might change over the next few months, but not too much. I do for sure like it better than Paradise Lost however. Much more consistent quality over the entire album imo. oh, and the 3 extra songs on the special edition are some of the best tracks on the album. Well worth it. | AngelofDeath
06.17.11 | I thought it was like a pretty lackluster version of Paradise Lost, to be honest. | Apollo
06.17.11 | is this band power metal? | Yazz_Flute
06.17.11 | Not so much anymore, not that they ever really were in the vein of bands like Stratovarius or Kamelot. | tiesthatbind
06.17.11 | 3 is by far their best
Haven't heard 6, 7, or the new one yet though | Demerick
06.17.11 | I wouldn't say so. Their newest stuff is more like heavy prog metal with some light elements of power metal thrown in. | pizzamachine
06.17.11 | 1 isn't their best, but it rules for sure. | Jethro42
06.17.11 | Nice! | progmetal77
06.25.11 | id put DWOT above paradise lost but other than that your pretty spot on | DarkSideOfLucca
09.25.17 | 7 is underrated, so is 4 and 1 is wayyyyy to high imo | Thalassic
09.25.17 | 4 = 1 ; 3 = 2
Never got into 5 tbh, always found it a tad overrated | Rik VII
09.25.17 | "Not so much anymore, not that they ever really were in the vein of bands like Stratovarius or Kamelot."
Kamelot are nothing like Stratovarius though, they aren't really power metal in the common sense of the world (and neither is Symphony X)
Regarding the ranking, this is as far from my own opinion as you could get, haha ... Especially concerning Iconoclast: "Seriously, this album has everything that make the band great." To be honest, I think Iconoclast lacks pretty much everything I actually care about on their best albums, especially the more versatile vocal performance of Allen, the blending of countless styles and especially the classical influence among those styles. Paradise Lost was the point where they started to lose their identitiy imo, sacrificing the interesting mix of styles for sheer heaviness - that said, Paradise Lost had enough stand-out moments to make it work, whereas with Iconoclast they continued that path even though they didn't have anything new to say anymore after Paradise Lost. It seems recycled and tired despite of its heaviness. I hope one day they'll make an actual "progressive" album again instead of just being "technical" - I'm sure the songs would work out better if they had half the time changes but twice the musical styles. | Groundking
09.25.17 | The Odyssey is number 1, Paradise lost number 2, Divine Wings number 3, the rest changes other than t/t which is naff. | Rik VII
09.25.17 | For me it's something like ...
1) V
2) Divine Wings of Tragedy
3) The Odyssey
4) Twilight in Olympus
5) Paradise Lost
(all these five above are great)
6) Damnation Game
7) Underworld
8) Iconoclast
9) s/t |
