06.27.11 | Read the books first before you watch the show. It's well worth your time. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | show is so gooood, best first season for a show in some time |
AggravatedYeti
06.27.11 | Peter Dinklage for the fucking win. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | pretty much |
Acanthus
06.27.11 | Show's awesome, almost have all of them downloaded. Season was too short, might have to read the books now :/ |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | HBO can do no wrong. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | Yeah, I highly recommend reading the books. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | My friend said the books are pretty much perfect, so I probably should |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | didn't HBO have that show with Steve Buscemi playing a gangster or something?
I only got Showtime... but Borgias was pretty cool |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Yea, Boardwalk Empire, which I haven't watched but I heard is good |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | Boardwalk Empire. I liked that show. |
wyankeif1337
06.27.11 | i saw the commercials and it looked good. do you know if it's on demand? |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I have no idea, man. |
Acanthus
06.27.11 | Hmm I know its on HBO Go but not sure about Demand |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Showtime's alright. I mean Dexter is cool and all I guess |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | Dexter is awesome. It just happens that the last season sucked hard. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | I really only liked the first season of Dexter. |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | Show takes the cake for best of 2011. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | Season 4 is like my favorite season of any show ever. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Really? Why's that? |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | yeah Dexter season 5 was really really bad by that show's standards, Californication was kind of weak too
in fact, I'm not even 100% sure why I have Showtime anymore outside of Dexter and now Borgias. Nurse Jackie's pretty ok I guess... |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | I agree with Blake, I've also heard that either this season or the next will be the last for our favorite serial killer. Nurse Jackie is so-so, Californication can get monotonous, but the women are so hot.
What's this Borgias? |
acorncheese
06.27.11 | bearsman is back |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | "Really? Why's that?"
Just everything about that season was awesome. John Lithgow was phenomenal as the antagonist and the season finale was just banana nuts. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I've never watched Californication or Borgias or Nurse Jackie. Should I? |
PayneTiger777
06.27.11 | Season 1 and season 4 of Dexter were amazing. John Lithgow was the best villain on any tv series ever.
Dexter season 5 was bad because Julia Stiles can't act for shit. She's not even attractive.
As for Game of Thrones, I really enjoyed it even though I haven't read the books yet. Tyrion, Sir Jerro, and the dance instructor (can't remember his name) are my favorite characters. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Nurse Jackie pretty damn meh. Never watched Californication.
@forever
I guess I'm a bit biased towards Dexter because Michael C. Hall is known mostly to people as Dexter Morgan, when his role as David Fisher is far far superior. It's still a good show though regardless. |
Kiran
06.27.11 | yeah season 4 of dexter was incredible television but season 5 was an absolute shitshow. hoping season 6 trims the fat on the bad subplots and supporting characters. nice to see some love for six feet under btw, fsharp.
game of thrones has been awesome though. haven't read the books but really really looking forward to season 2. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | "and the dance instructor (can't remember his name)"
Syrio Furrel (sp?) He had that super awesome scene where he takes out like 6 knights with a wooden sword. Badass. Interesting selection of favorite characters, I must say. if you read the books I have a feeling you'll change that up
"when his role as David Fisher is far far superior."
Oh yeah there's no doubt his acting in that show is amazing. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Yea, but it's really the way that he develops that character that is incredible. Some of the best
character development ever |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I mean, that's in the writing. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Yea, but still, its not easy to act as a morbid closeted gay man and than slowly develop into a fun, loving one |
PayneTiger777
06.27.11 | I meant Ser Jorah earlier, not Sir Jerro, lol.
My brother is actually going to head down to New York City when the next book is released so he can get George R.R. Martin's autograph.
Bah, I'm mad that the next season isn't until Spring 2012. |
acorncheese
06.27.11 | six feet under FTW |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | Nurse Jackie's cool, just because she's an insane drug addict. Californication's first 4 seasons or so were just awesome, this last one started to play out the same old stuff though. I actually kind of dug US of Tara too, but it's gone now.
Borgias is about the first Spanish-born Pope and his family -- "the original crime family" as the tagline goes. They were the real-life inspiration for the Corleone's in The Godfather. Very cool show, probably the best thing Showtime has going right now unless Dexter has a remarkable return to form this year.
Weeds comes back tonight, though I'm not getting my hopes up. That show just went off the deep end the last season plus. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | "I meant Ser Jorah earlier, not Sir Jerro, lol."
I knew who you meant lol. He's probably the one character that's actually better on the show than in the book.
"Bah, I'm mad that the next season isn't until Spring 2012."
That's why you should get the books to tide you over :] |
WatchItExplode
06.27.11 | Also popping in to say that Six Feet Under rules.
Perhaps my favorite drama series of all time. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I'm gonna have to download Californication, and Borgias sounds pretty awesome. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Six Feet Under's finale is by far my favorite ending to anything, and also one of my favorite shows. Everyone should tune in for the new season of Breaking Bad on July 17th. Now thats a fucking show |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | I'm pretty pissed Mad Men decided to take a year and a half off between seasons
and yeah Borgias and Californication are probably the best non-Dexter shows on Showtime.
also, acorncheese, bearsman never left, yo! |
kris.
06.27.11 | game of thrones rules so hard
just started the second book |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I've never understood the hype with Mad Men. I've seen every episode so far, but nothing really happens. It's just dull.
And yeah, can't wait for more Breaking Bad. |
Kiran
06.27.11 | "I'm pretty pissed Mad Men decided to take a year and a half off between seasons"
yeah this is killing me
jon hamm just signed on for 3 more seasons though so at least 3 more seasons of mad men! |
Kiran
06.27.11 | and the big delay was the show creator holding off for a better contract/more creative control i think...
...if you weren't already aware |
AggravatedYeti
06.27.11 | Jorah Mormont, Drogo, The Hound, GM Mormont, Allistair Thorne, The Big John, Aemon Targaryen and Osha are all excellently casted secondary characters. Even the little kid they got to play Rickon is perfect. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Mad Men is good, but yeah overrated definitely |
Voivod
06.27.11 | Have heard a lot of good things about this TV series worldwide... |
Snowball
06.27.11 | was a great series but i couldn't help but feel the finale was a bit anti-climactic. the second series looks like it's gonna be sweet though, shame we've got to wait however many months before it starts up again |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | I did not know that Kirgasm, I was wondering what the hold up was. Mad Men is just great storytelling and acting -- although it helps if you're into the whole late 50s/early 60s motif and advertising agency thing. Don Draper is just a fascinating character. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Anybody watch The Killing? Did not like what I saw at all |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | The climax was in episode 9 when you know who got beheaded. The last episode was more resolution. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Yea, they kind of took a Wire like approach with that |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | "Mad Men is just great storytelling and acting"
Acting, yes, but storytelling? I have to disagree with you there. |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | The Killing was pretty cool until the season finale when they just fucked over everyone who'd been watching the show by revealing who the killer was then pulling a "just kidding that's not who it is!" moment right before the season ended |
Pyosisified
06.27.11 | a friend of mine is nuts about this series idk it prob sucks |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | The ad I saw for it before it aired reminded me too much of Twin Peaks, which was dismissing |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | For those that have read the books AND watched the series, did you find the whole affair with Loras and Renly kind of... weird? I mean the book didn't say the were fucking, but it also kind of hinted at it. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | Yeah the Killing looks exactly like the plot of Twin Peaks. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | "a friend of mine is nuts about this series idk it prob sucks"
nope |
kris.
06.27.11 | "did you find the whole affair with Loras and Renly kind of... weird?"
kinda but only from actually seeing it on screen which is really awkward |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | six feet under FTW [2]
As many said, Michael C. Hall's acting is far superior in this series than in Dexter imo.
I'll probably get raped for saying this but I really like the Hawaii 5-0 reboot. |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | Haven't seen it. Never was a fan of the original |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | bend over |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | Oh go watch The Big C already. |

fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | It's about to be Oz all over again up in here |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | Baaa dum cheeeee. |

06.27.11 | oh yeah The Big C is on tonight too, which I'll end up watching because my old lady likes it |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | I wish I could afford all those premium channels like this big shot here. |
Inveigh
06.27.11 | I can only afford one. barely. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | I just download them illegally. |
Blindsided
06.27.11 | ^Yep that's the only way to go. Really though it's like $15 a piece for HBO and Sho, and that's in-fucking-sane. |
foreverendeared
06.27.11 | yeah that is ridiculous |
fsharptrit0ne
06.27.11 | I illegally download too, but I buy shows I really like just to have |
ComfortablyDumb
06.28.11 | I have just under 200 pages left in the first book. Can't wait to start watching the series when I finish |
foreverendeared
06.28.11 | I think you'll enjoy it. |
foreverendeared
06.28.11 | The only problem is budget issues. Like some scenes they just aren't going to be able to replicate because of how much it'd cost. They also have a budget problem with extras. Like when they had the tournament at King's Landing in celebration of Ned being Hand, the tourney was supposed to have like thousands upon thousands of people there, but they were only ably to show like maybe a hundred people in the stands. It was kind of weird. |
foreverendeared
06.28.11 | Detriment, that's Frog and Toad man!
