2011, Overlooked & Unknown (Volume II) | 1 | | Le Revelateur Fictions
(Ambient) Former Godspeed You! Black Emperor guitarist Roger Tellier-Craig's first solo
album, full of 70s krautrock electronics and subtle ambience. Think early Tangerine
Dream.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqoS-VVm3kw | 2 | | Snowman Absence
(Art Rock / Dream Pop) Trippy dream pop in post-rock form. Dense atmospheres and
crooning falsetto's galore.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaZN9RFnoLI | 3 | | Leyland Kirby Eager To Tear Apart The Stars
(Ambient) Leyland Kirby (a.k.a. The Caretaker) is one of the most impressive ambient
artists out there, balancing merciless beauty with unforgiving hostility.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-9nw565q04 | 4 | | Blood Orange Coastal Grooves
(Indie Pop) Get lost in the shameless dancehall grooves.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4avBdTgA-eQ | 5 | | Cat's Eyes Cat's Eyes
(Neo-Psych / Dream Pop) A side project of The Horror's frontman Farris Badwan, any
fan's of the band will enjoy this; a black & white shade of sulty retro-pop.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSXKWQz_R-Q | 6 | | Sungrazer Mirador
(Stoner Rock / Sludge Rock) Reminiscent of early Electric Wizard. This album is full of thick,
brooding grooves and smokey sludge that any fan of stoner rock should be able to
appreciate.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dXOvUnCmoM | 7 | | Maria Minerva Cabaret Cixous
(Dream Pop) Catchy lo-fi dream pop, heavy on the hallucinogens.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvSQ7OnJMlA | 8 | | Hyetal Broadcast
(Dubstep) Consistently good beats, dub it up.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqFYUtyd0Hg | 9 | | Necro Deathmort Music Of Bleak Origin
(Electronic / Industrial / Drone Metal) Dub beats + charcoaled guitars = Music Of Bleak
Origin. Haven't heard anything quite like this. Try to imagine if Sunn O))) put out an
electronic album.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv5GSOHWR2c | 10 | | Sean McCann The Capital
(Ambient) Soothing ambient for pastoral days and careless daydreams.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrpNAEy-_6U | 11 | | James Pants James Pants
(Psych-Pop) An excellent debut album, similiar to the likes of Ariel Pink, John Maus, and Toro
Y Moi. Though Pants has more to say than his contemporaries. Full of vintage finesse and
groovy lounge jams.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAV2I-cDctU | 12 | | A Winged Victory For The Sullen A Winged Victory For The Sullen
(Ambient) This is a collaboration between Stars Of The Lid member Adam Wiltzie and L.A.
composer Dustin O'Halloran. It's beautifully composed music; lush classical ambience behind
distant piano melodys. If Stars of the Lid scored a film, it may sound something like this.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7L8OQO2qGk | 13 | | Salva Complex Housing
(Dubstep) Electro-funk, meet dubstep. | Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnfz_w7jR9Y | 14 | | Pure X Pleasure
(Ambient Rock) Hazy ambient rock in the tradition of Galaxie 500 and The Jesus and
Mary Chain. Consistent thoughout, it's an excellent debut album.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFnFmuMLGfY | 15 | | Liquor Store Yeah Buddy
(Garage Punk) The vocals may be a bit grading at times, but damn it these guys sound great throughout
their massively rocking, groovy debut. And oh boy, that cover. Yeah buddy. | Sample:

v=FgZlNVmSXjs | 16 | | Mikal Cronin Mikal Cronin
(Garage Rock) One of the best debut's of the year. It's catchy lo-fi rock that brings to
mind sugary 60s pop and 90s tuned nostalgia.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkTCmGiz2oY | 17 | | Egyptrixx Bible Eyes
(Dubstep) Beats Beats Beats. Some nice diversity here.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCh2Uze6b-U | 18 | | Junior Boys It's All True
(Synth-Pop) Classy electro-pop. Smooth synths and light 80s-pop reside throughout.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpCXHGUJBm8 | 19 | | Sleepover Forever
(Ethereal Pop) If you liked the new Ford & Lopatin, check this one out. Basically, it
sounds like the Cocteau Twins on acid + some fuck around instrumentals.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbbOOlYyWlw | 20 | | FareWell Poetry Hoping for the Invisible to Ignite
(Post-Rock) Without a doubt one of the best post-rock records of the year, if not the
best. Any fan of the genre needs to hear this.
| Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoXrZppEcV8 | 21 | | Disco Inferno The Five EPs
(Experimental Rock / Post-Rock) Vastly underrated, Disco Inferno's clever sampling and
ambitious efforts still sound as fresh as ever. Nobody sounded like this in the early 90s,
and nobody has since. This album is a collection of all of their EPs, which are argueably
better than their albums. A must own.
