My 5/5s
1American Football
American Football

This is my premier summer album and it will be for a long time. For a side project everything is so precise and the production is perfect. Not even to mention that the sound of it is incredible.
2Arcade Fire
Funeral

I can't understand people who hate this. The variation and creativity of it even without the great songwriting and lyrics is brilliant, and the nostalgic lyrics make it one of the best Canadian albums of all time.
3Brand New
Deja Entendu

I can't put in words what this album means to me. I just hear it whenever I listen to Quiet Things or Play Crack the Sky or Jaws Theme Swimming. No matter how long it's been since summer 2009 it's always there.
4Brand New
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

On the other hand, as I get older I think I'll be falling on this more often. Jesse Lacey can write a fucking song.
5Interpol
Turn On the Bright Lights

I'd been looking for this sound for ages, and it's better than I ever imagined.
6Pixies
Doolittle

I shouldn't have to explain this.
7Radiohead
Kid A

This is really a testament to Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's genius. Take away the guitars and drums and they get even better.
8Radiohead
OK Computer

This might not have the album-length atmosphere of Kid A, but I think that this is the best collection of songs ever made. Period.
9The Dismemberment Plan
Emergency & I

My only ever first-listen 5
10The National
Boxer

"Watch another uninnocent elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults." No other album conveys loneliness in a city to me like this one.
11Nirvana
In Utero

There is plenty wrong with this album, but what's right with it (not to mention the fact that this album got me into musi) is enough to warrant a classic.
12The Smiths
The Queen is Dead

Same as Doolittle. Have you ever noticed how all 3 of the 3 generations of British songwriting duos have a John/Johnny/Jonny in them?
13R.E.M.
Automatic For the People

Unarguably the best Michael Stipe ever sounded. Murmur comes close but this is the best R.E.M. album.
14Wilco
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

How can an acoustic album sound this diverse? Other than the sampling and experimenting. Jeff Tweddy gets it, man.
