and I don't see why anyone wouldn't consider this decrepit. yeah, people die every day, and the world is a pretty messed up place: no one can deny this. however, the point here is not that someone died. the point is that humanity has deteriorated to the point where people will pass by a dying toddler without doing anything to help her, or even glancing her way. it's pretty abhorrent. |

10.18.11 | "I don't get why people see this as so horrible. People die, every day."
I guess its to do with the fact that a defenseless 2 year old got run over twice and no one did anything for 10 minutes. I know you can throw in kids dying all over the world from starving and such, but this is a different case imo. |
foreverendeared
10.18.11 | In intensive care is what they said, I think.
I genuinely think this is because of how overpopulated the country of China is. I mean, the more people you're around every day, the more you don't have time for others. It sounds like a bullshit excuse (which it is), but I can guarantee the people ignoring the child were thinking along the lines of, "If I had time to stop and help everyone I passed that needed it, I'd have no time to get to work/school/home to my kids/time for myself/etc." |
foxblood
10.18.11 | it's not like china in general doesn't care, if they really didn't care they wouldn't be losing their shit over this video. can't imagine how someone could walk by and live with themselves though |
Wolfhorde
10.18.11 | "The point is that humanity has deteriorated to the point where people will pass by a dying toddler without doing anything to help her, or even glancing her way. it's pretty abhorrent. "
So what? What makes this different than passing by old homeless people, that are about to starve? What makes this different than bombing innocents or denying a already dying person the right to be properly executed? What makes this different than people hitting, abusing, raping and killing their kids?
All of which is pretty "usual". There is no real argument as to why this differs or is so horrible except for moral implications and the fact that it happened in public.
Also, what forever said. You can't just rip things out of context, so considering China's overpopulation it makes sense that there's a probabilty for things like that to happen. |
BlazeWilson
10.18.11 | This is a quote from the article I read about it: "In recent years, assisting victims in traffic accidents or other emergency situations has become controversial in China. In an attempt to cover costly medical expenses, several senior citizens, injured in accidents that were their own fault, turned against people who helped them at the scene by suing the good Samaritans for compensation, according to state media."
This is pretty fucking ridiculous. |
taylormemer
10.18.11 | @ forever,
Well, that probably is a correlation,
I heard it may also be due to the fact that there have been recent scammers (supposedly injured/frail) attempting to lure in passers by to then claim compensation or something stupid like that.
But what's worse is how those people could not see past themselves. It's disgusting. People need to just fucking grow some balls and help each other out. |

10.18.11 | what makes this sickening isn't that even that a young girl died, because as has been mentioned people die every day. what makes it awful is the apathy of the other people. fucking disgusting. |

Yeah they mentioned that in the video, but that doesn't really make sense in this context, does it? I mean, surely the people who aren't helping aren't thinking a 2 year old is going to sue them. Unless the child's parents could? I don't know, I'm not really sure how that works, I'm ignorant when it comes how the law works in these cases. |

10.19.11 | - a two year old gets run over twice
- a two year old is lying in a pool of blood
- no one helps the two year old
Summed up it's sad enough without imagining the coma-induced child probably hemorrhaging or convulsing while saturated by it's own blood before lying there completely limp from the conditions of it's wounds. I am sure the passer-byers acknowledged the body from a peripheral view and didn't delve into the possibility that the child may be in critical condition. Perhaps they didn't even recognize the child through it's disfigurement and rationalized it as roadkill instead of a human toddler.
Who knows, speculation isn't an objective means of analyzing the phenomenon. |
North0House2
10.19.11 | Okay, so I dunno if this has been mentioned on this thread already, but I don't feel like reading through it.
I want to give you my view of this.
I've been to China, my sister is adopted from China, and my other sister is from Taiwan. I know a lot more about their laws than the average American, I like to believe... I don't know much, but I know enough.
Basically, in China, if someone is responsible for the injury of another civilian, they are required (forced) to pay said person's medical bills for the rest of their life, even if the bills are not at all relevant to the original injury caused to the victim. Previous to this event, a man helped a woman who fell off of her balcony. The man was charged with responsibility of the event, and now he's paying her medical bills for the remainder of his existence. I believe it's very possible that the truck drivers feared taking on such a responsibility... Now, I don't know why the second truck driver did not miss the girl. Chinese drivers are insane (seriously, the traffic laws are oddly lax there, it's really scary driving around in China.) and there are so many pedestrians and bikers crammed into a small area, that I believe it's very possible the truck drivers didn't see her in time... Also, she may not have been helped due to the fact she is a girl, and they hold a very low amount of esteem in China... It's all very sad, and it's certainly still a terribly unfortunate and awful event. But, I don't think it was cruelty. The people in China are extremely, EXTREMELY, nice. They are far more caring than people here in America, or really anywhere else I've been. I doubt they'd just maim a kid and let them die.
This, this is why Communism is bad, children. |
someguest
10.19.11 | yeah let's blame a political system for people walking by a bleeding individual
you're fucking insane |

10.19.11 | This is why careless selfish people are bad. No excuse for not helping the kid, none at all. |
North0House2
10.19.11 | I stated what I believe the case was. Granted, I'd certainly help her out. But, caring for a child throughout their entire life is a huge responsibility if you're already scraping by... |

And there you got your catch. It SHOULDN'T. Exact same thing when fights or attacks happen in public, but do most people do something? No, they don't. Sometimes understandably. There was a case here (where it's safe to say it's USUALLY pretty "safe" on the streets) where a person was attacked in broad daylight and when someone got in to help he got injured in a manner that could've killed him. I doubt that's rare tbh. (maybe not that extent of injury, but the example of this) |

This is where you get your catch. When someone see's a fight or beating there is a chance they will get injured, it comes across as a threat to themselves. There was absolutely no threat to anybody walking by this little girl, except of course the aforementioned suing, which I still don't see as a viable excuse. |
