Nov.'10-'11 Concerts Ranked
didn't get to go to many shows over the past year (started at rNovember). some are shows that i'm going to in a short while. |
12 | | Matthew Good Avalanche
Seeing him in a few weeks. I'm really excited to see him play stuff off of this
album. 0/0 |
11 | | City and Colour Little Hell
Seeing him in January. Same as above. 0/0 |
10 | | Job for a Cowboy Doom
Gross. They were one of two bands who opened for BTBAM, and despite
missing a guitarist because of health issues they took the stage anyway.
Wish they hadn't. 2/10 |
9 | | 3 Inches of Blood Advance and Vanquish
I've never been a big fan of this band, mainly because of the vocals.
Alexisonfire must have chosen them for an opening band strictly because
they're local, because the music itself is pretty terrible. Also, the singer can't
hit any of the high notes live. 3/10 |
8 | | Norma Jean Meridional
Another opening band for Alexisonfire. While I've never been a big fan, they
managed to put on a passable show. The vocalist is as fat and hairy as
you'd imagine. 5/10 |
7 | | La Dispute Wildlife
The first opening band for Alexisonfire and by far the best, which is kind of
sad considering they received no introduction or visual aids whatsoever. It
was nice to see a small group of dedicated fans headbanging away at the
front of the stage. I actually managed to say a few words to Jordan as he
was leaving the venue. Pretty impressive stuff. 7.5/10 |
6 | | Blue Man Group The Complex Rock Tour Live (DVD)
Kind of an odd choice, but I got dragged to it. Turns out it was one of the
better shows I've been to for fan experience and involvement. Say what
you want about the actual music, which is full of bizarre instruments and
random song progressions, but they know how to put on a show. 8/10 |
5 | | The Ocean Precambrian
The first opening act for BTBAM. They absolutely blew JFAC out of the water
and very nearly managed to outdo the headliner. Some of the screams
were just godly live and the musicianship was phenomenal. This is from
someone who was never a big fan of them before the concert. 8.5/10 |
4 | | Alexisonfire Watch Out!
I'm glad I got the chance to see them one last time before they disbanded.
This was my second time seeing them, but I hadn't in years. They didn't
disappoint, with tremendous visuals and fantastic energy that seemed to
electrify the crowd. While they were really taking a nosedive over the last
few years, this concert helped them to regain a little more of my respect.
8.5/10 |
3 | | Between the Buried and Me Alaska
Ah, the always controversial Between the Buried and Me. I ended up
snagging an extra ticket from a friend just hours before the show started,
and I'm thankful I did. Their average stage presence was made up for by
their near flawless sound and engaging visuals. Managed to catch one of
Dustie's crowd-thrown picks as well. 9/10 |
2 | | Karnivool Sound Awake
When I first found out about this concert, I nearly shit my pants. I had been
wanting to see them for a few years and never thought they'd gather a big
enough fanbase to tour NA, but there they were. The venue was tiny and
there was maybe forty people inside, but it was a fantastic show. Being
front row certainly helped. Kenny's vocals were unbelievable and the rest of
the band was near-CD quality. This was also the only show I've managed
to grab the setlist off the stage. 9.5/10 |
1 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada
GY!BE. Front row. Enough said. Best concert of my life and something that
I'll never top, save for Refused reforming and deciding to play a show in my
basement. Absolutely stunning. 10/10 |
