| A Few Ablums That Took A Year Or More For Me To Enjoy
These are some albums that I owned for at least a year before I really started to understand and/or appreciate them. | 1 | | Oceansize Frames
This album flows through moods flawlessly, not to mention the musicianship and emotional content is to die for. | 2 | | Devin Townsend Terria
Overall I'm not as much of a fan of this guy as I wish I was, because he's spoken of very highly. But after some time I realized what a massive piece of music this was, not to mention very emotionally driven, when he's not goofing around with the lyrical content. | 3 | | Porcupine Tree The Incident
Gave it a few listens, through it down for about a year and a half, and then I realized how great it is in its entirety. It flows more like an orchestral piece than a progressive rock album, and there is some great material to be had here. | 4 | | Tesseract One
I, like many others, wrote this off as a Meshuggah clone. But after some time I realized how much this band executes their "unique" style on this album. The fusion of melodic guitar backdrops, complicated and rough-to-memorize rhythms, bass that can be heard, and appreciated, a drummer that keeps the whole thing flowing wonderfully, and a vocalist more suited in an operatic setting. There are some wonderful moments here, especially the last three songs. | 5 | | Converge No Heroes
Although I liked Jane Doe I really never understood its status as a masterpiece, but then again it came before my time. This one seemed to be overshadowed by its predecessor's success, but it's really quite good. Many different types of styles mashed together on here. Maybe sloppily by some context, but a worthy listen for anyone intrigued by a grinding style with tempos all over the damn place. | 6 | | Minus the Bear Planet of Ice
This album felt like bland, monotone alternative rock to me for the longest time, but the overall flow and feeling of this is like nothing else. Refer to the name. This is a perfect record for the winter season. Dense when it needs to be, desolate when it can be. Definitely took me a few spins, but it became all the more rewarding. | |

12.13.11 | Never really got into 3. I've seen PT play it in its entirety live, listened to it dozens of times, and still don't really enjoy it.
1, on the other hand, is a masterpiece. | BugZoid
12.13.11 | I wouldn't say that I'm in love with 'The Incident', but I definitely appreciate it now. And it took some time.
Number one certainly is. Blows me away with just.. the power of each track.'
@gosk8n - Yeah man, I just was spinning this the other day, and the raw power of "Plagues" just blew me away. The album definitely takes an odd turn after that track, but it's all worth the ride. | RooseveltsGhost
12.13.11 | THE INCIDENT IS SO FUCKING GOOOD! RIGHT ON! | Ignimbrite

12.13.11 | What is the best Neurosis album to start with if I want a fan to be made out of me? Don't give me that "every single one" stuff, because I haven't been impressed enough with what I've heard. I want the best possible album that has the highest chances of blowing my mind and sucking my conscience. | InAbsentia
12.13.11 | @Bug: Start with The Eye of Every Storm. | Gmork89
12.13.11 | Your pic rules. | Gmork89
12.13.11 | And I was thinking Terria before I even realized it was on here, weird. | BugZoid
12.13.11 | @InAbsentia: Alright, I had that one written down to purchase a couple years back, so something off of that must have rubbed me right. I will give it a shot :)
@Gmork89: Thanks man, I'm a D. Day Lewis fan, what can I say? And that is the album that inspired the list, initially haha. By the way.. I could be mistaken, but is your name a reference to the wolf on The Neverending Story? | lucasjcockcroft
12.13.11 | i love ablums to. |
