Too Old To Remember, Too Young To Forget

This is a requested recs list for Brandon. These would be albums I would really miss being in my library. Some of these I know he hasn?t listened too (because I asked) and some of them I?m just assuming. Anyone else is welcome to take them as recs as well. Most of these are pretty well known to anyone who loves 90'alt and indie bands but some not so much.
1Eels
Beautiful Freak

Great alt-pop album that is also a great introduction to the band/man that
is E. how much I recommend you digging into their discog is entirely dependent on what you think of this album
2 Eels
Electroshock Blues

Hands down their/his best album. Shockingly honest lyrics combined with
wonderful and at times gleefully surprising instrumentation.
3 The Flaming Lips
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

This would probably be the album that would satisfy the largest group of
people. the amount of enjoyment garnered from this release will determine
whether or not you should dig further into their discog.
4Counting Crows
August And Everything After

This is hands down a classic... it just depends on whether or not it's to your
liking.
5Counting Crows
Recovering The Satellites

Every bit as good as it's predecessor, if you liked the first one then you'll
like this one as well.
6Counting Crows
Across A Wire

It was pretty well known back then that CC were primarily a live band. This
two CD live album is pretty much the proof. With two additional versions of
their most loved tracks off of their first two albums this release is not to be
missed by any fan. The amount of sorrow and feeling squeezed out of the
same (albeit with miner alterations) lyrics is astounding. The fact that these
songs were finely crafted long before there official release becomes very
apparent.
7The Lemonheads
It's a Shame About Ray

There isn't much left to be said about this album. It's is a finely crafted
example of music in 1992. Evan Dando is a sad sad man with vices aplenty
and he's ready to prove it.
8Silversun Pickups
Carnavas

This IMO is one of the best groups to come out of the 00's. Their two lp's
are near perfect and I think they will end op being 5's for a lot of people in
the future.
9Silversun Pickups
Swoon

Every bit as good as the previous entry.
10Swervedriver
Mezcal Head

Shoegaze, Dream-pop, Grunge and alt... this has Maniac! written all over it.
It might even stand up to the challenge.
11Temple of the Dog
Temple of the Dog

There is no way B has not listened to this but just in case.
12Primus
Frizzle Fry

These guys have always stood alone and have been one of my favorites for it.
13Primus
Sailing the Seas of Cheese

Some like this more than Frizzle fry but it's just as good.
14Jamiroquai
Emergency On Planet Earth

I'm a long time fan of this acid-jazz/funk group and their first three albums
are really a ride that shouldn't be missed.
15 Jamiroquai
The Return Of The Space Cowboy

This would be my favorite.
16Jamiroquai
Travelling Without Moving

As good as Emergency, if you don't like one of these you won't like the rest.
17Guided By Voices
Bee Thousand

Being from Ohio this was my me & my friends little secret for many many
years. The fact that it is so highly ranked on sputnik is one of the reasons I
decided to stay. If you don't completely fall in love with this album there is
no reason to check out anything else by them but if you do there is a vast
discog to start delving into.
18The Toadies
Rubberneck

Where I come from this was not a popular album when it was released. I've always liked it and am glad to see it's gotten a little respect through the
years.
19Ben Harper
Burn to Shine

Blues, funk soul and reggae. This singer songwriter puts his heart in his
mouth and lets it all hang out. You'll like it or you won't
20Jack Johnson
Brushfire Fairytales

I've never really understood someone not liking something so god damned
catchy but there are people out there that hate this. It's just so fucking
catchy and enjoyable.
21Elastica
Elastica

90's Brit-Pop that never really got their due. This is a great album known
well by some.
22The Stone Roses
The Stone Roses

Until I came here I really thought these guys had been completely
forgotten. If you like Blur, The Verve or Elastica you are probably going to
love this.
23Dambuilders
Encendedor

90's indie pop-rock. this is their first release so production is raw and the
lyrics are a little immature. I tend to prefer bands young and missing the corruption of some slick producer. If you do too then you will probably like
this .
24Dambuilders
Against the Stars

If production value is important to you and you like the songs a little more
mature then this will probably be a little more to your liking.
25Magnapop
Hot Boxing

Female driven 90's indie alt-pop at it's finest. If you don't get into this you
might as well drop the genre.
26Belly
Star

More Female driven 90's alt-pop. this is again rough sophomore vs the
smooth production of their Freshman effort.
27Belly
King

both are great it just depends on your preference.
28Sordid Humor
Light Music For Dying People

Indie collage rock that no one listens to but it is at the beginning of the era.
Ignore the release date as it was released years after the recording.
29Cowboy Junkies
The Trinity Sessions

alt-folk and a great album, wish they had kept up this level of originality
throughout the rest of their career.
30The Nixons
Foma

One word, sister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wxcWLgOfNA
31Better Than Ezra
Deluxe

way better than people seem to think it is. Ignore "Good" and the album is
great.
