| Never Believed The Hype
These are albums in which I never really understood the hype that was built up behind them. Some of the bands I truly adore, but the lines of followers behind these albums have always baffled me in some fashion. | 1 | | Animals as Leaders Animals as Leaders
Tosin has always impressed me, and this album had wonderful production, but I just never really fell in love with this like everyone else. Felt a bit too much like a 'solo' album. | 2 | | Baroness Blue Record
I have spun this various times since I purchased it and I find it dull beyond belief. Would I enjoy the Red Album more? | 3 | | Deerhunter Halcyon Digest
This is definitely more of a mood setting album than anything. Low-fi, low key, but other than that it sounds like quite a bit of monotony to me. | 4 | | Faith No More Angel Dust
Patton is a mad man (especially on his collaboration with The Dillinger Escape Plan) but for this getting all the hype it got I felt like I got jipped. Just doesn't really strike anything in my soul. Unique? Sure. But not really all too engaging. | 5 | | The Human Abstract Nocturne
It wasn't terrible, but there was something about this album that kept from truly enjoying it. Some cool moments, but other than that I could take it or leave it. And mostly leave it. | 6 | | In Flames Colony
Now I've been a huge In Flames fan for years, but I never could get why this album got all the accolades that it did. I love the title track, but for the most part the rest of the album is kind of a snooze fest for me. I adore much of their other work, but this one never did much for me. | 7 | | Kvelertak Kvelertak
Fairly interesting at first, but on the listens that followed it proved to be pretty average and not much to latch onto and remember. | 8 | | The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium
Aside from "Roulette Dares" I was baffled by this one. Deemed a masterpiece by nearly everyone, I just couldn't understand that notion. I love their other work. -Frances the Mute- and -Amputechture- rocked my world, but this one fell way short. | 9 | | My Bloody Valentine Loveless
This one could be because I'm years too late to enjoy and appreciate the influence it had on many things I love now, but this one is just a bit boring in my eyes (ears). Relaxing, but dull. | 10 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
Always kind of appreciated what Opeth do, and especially what they do well, but this record just had nothing for me to take with me. It feels uneventful as hell. | 11 | | Rush 2112
Only the title track made an impression (which in their defense is half of the album). But I don't see how this gets more praise than -Hemispheres- or -Permanent Waves-, which are classics. | 12 | | Tool Lateralus
Sluggish. Unexciting. A few winning tracks here and there, and by that I mean "The Grudge" and the title track, but besides that I think they overfilled their plates with this one. They should've stuck with the Aenima formula, because that one beat the piss out of this release. | |

01.04.12 | i agree with you on 12 but i love the rest | Hordewolf
01.04.12 | lol, 8 is probably their best work. | Tyrael
01.04.12 | No real In Flames fan would call 6 the band's best work
Whoracle is by far the best thing they've ever done | fulgrim
01.04.12 | 3, 9, 10, 11 are all fantastic albums.
| wabbit
01.04.12 | Rush has way better albums than 2112...its still 4/5 though. | Zorak
01.04.12 | I think you have a problem with getting the emotions these artists are trying to convey. From what I can see, you seem to get bored really quickly. Just try and let the music soak in a little more and let the emotions wash over you. | sniper
01.04.12 | 8 is highly regarded because it almost sounds like at the drive-in finally losing control of omar and cedric and jumping off the deep end. i personally prefer listening to omar's creative mind constrained by at the drive-in, but its easy to see why people think deloused is a classic. imagine what it must have sounded like to all the kids expecting a follow-up to relationship of command. | Masochist
01.04.12 | #12 - I've tried to become a Tool fan, and I just can't pull it off, for some reason. I'm a bigger fan of 'A Perfect Circle'.
Tyraelxy - Disagree. 'Colony' is definitely in the running for In Flames' best album, and even if it isn't #1, I don't think 'Whoracle' is, anyways (odd, because 'Whoracle' is actually the first In Flames album I ever heard, and usually the first one has the biggest impression on me). | benkim
01.04.12 | I will never get why some people don't get 12 but that is just me. That album is phenomenal. | KjSwantko
01.04.12 | holy shit I agree with 10 so much, but it is still good | BugZoid
01.06.12 | 1. Colony is not bad, by any means, but it just bores me.
2. De-Loused just is not interesting to me.
@bringthejunz - I don't really feel I have a problem with anything just because I don't agree with all the accolades these albums receive. It's my opinion, therefore no more right or wrong than anyone else's. I get bored when music doesn't give me the proper level of intrigue, which is the case with most of these. | Ignimbrite
01.06.12 | sort of agree with you about 4 and 12 | jayfatha
01.06.12 | Flava Flav said it best | Trebor.
01.06.12 | hype can't refer to old things jesus christ

01.06.12 | "hype can't refer to old things jesus christ"
it most certainly can

01.06.12 | hype is a news term as in new
| ITsHxCTOASTER
01.06.12 | 9?... How? | Inveigh
01.06.12 | Whoracle was always my favorite by In Flames, but Colony was up there too
4 is one of my favorite albums ever, but it's definitely not for everyone | DocSportello
01.06.12 | Maybe according to the OED, that's what it means, but language in the information age is pretty open to flux. We prescribe new meaning to old words, and they evolve. Technically, the OP means "reputation," but I prefer the Flavor Flav variation - "don't believe the hype." | whywontyoudie
01.06.12 | your problem with 8 is that Frances the Mute is a better album than De-Loused. | Trebor.
01.06.12 | idk people just use the term hype as an excuse when they don't like or don't get something popular or critically acclaimed
| DocSportello
01.06.12 | 'hype' is to 'epic' is to assorted Sput-adjectives | Trebor.
01.06.12 | epic is the most overused word on the internet right now
It must be stopped
