Never Believed The Hype

These are albums in which I never really understood the hype that was built up behind them. Some of the bands I truly adore, but the lines of followers behind these albums have always baffled me in some fashion.
1Animals as Leaders
Animals as Leaders

Tosin has always impressed me, and this album had wonderful production, but I just never really fell in love with this like everyone else. Felt a bit too much like a 'solo' album.
2Baroness
Blue Record

I have spun this various times since I purchased it and I find it dull beyond belief. Would I enjoy the Red Album more?
3Deerhunter
Halcyon Digest

This is definitely more of a mood setting album than anything. Low-fi, low key, but other than that it sounds like quite a bit of monotony to me.
4Faith No More
Angel Dust

Patton is a mad man (especially on his collaboration with The Dillinger Escape Plan) but for this getting all the hype it got I felt like I got jipped. Just doesn't really strike anything in my soul. Unique? Sure. But not really all too engaging.
5The Human Abstract
Nocturne

It wasn't terrible, but there was something about this album that kept from truly enjoying it. Some cool moments, but other than that I could take it or leave it. And mostly leave it.
6In Flames
Colony

Now I've been a huge In Flames fan for years, but I never could get why this album got all the accolades that it did. I love the title track, but for the most part the rest of the album is kind of a snooze fest for me. I adore much of their other work, but this one never did much for me.
7Kvelertak
Kvelertak

Fairly interesting at first, but on the listens that followed it proved to be pretty average and not much to latch onto and remember.
8The Mars Volta
De-Loused in the Comatorium

Aside from "Roulette Dares" I was baffled by this one. Deemed a masterpiece by nearly everyone, I just couldn't understand that notion. I love their other work. -Frances the Mute- and -Amputechture- rocked my world, but this one fell way short.
9My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

This one could be because I'm years too late to enjoy and appreciate the influence it had on many things I love now, but this one is just a bit boring in my eyes (ears). Relaxing, but dull.
10Opeth
Blackwater Park

Always kind of appreciated what Opeth do, and especially what they do well, but this record just had nothing for me to take with me. It feels uneventful as hell.
11Rush
2112

Only the title track made an impression (which in their defense is half of the album). But I don't see how this gets more praise than -Hemispheres- or -Permanent Waves-, which are classics.
12Tool
Lateralus

Sluggish. Unexciting. A few winning tracks here and there, and by that I mean "The Grudge" and the title track, but besides that I think they overfilled their plates with this one. They should've stuck with the Aenima formula, because that one beat the piss out of this release.
