DoABarrelRoll's Best Of Nu-metal
Okay we all know the idea behind nu-metal back then is as enjoyable as it sounds today. Having a hip-hop meets downtuned guitars and angsty lyrics does make for 13 year olds to drool over, but once you've grown up there's little to look back on. Nu-metal was the genre that introduced me to metalcore which in turn introduced me to sludge, death, hardcore, and everything in between. Lately I've taken to listen to what nu-metal albums I still find good and which ones have not aged well at all. Here are some of the album's I'm surprised I found some great enjoyment from. |

L.D. 50
In many respects the best nu-metal album, even the best Mudvayne album. Though they've tried to dip into more experimental and mainstream sounds, this is strangely their best. |

Progress
A wiser album name could not have been chosen, the fine group has matured well from their first album. The lyrics are genuine and the singing makes it more so. The electronics are well placed, and "Where" is probably one of the best nu-metal ballads out there. |

Get Some
Almost having a hardcore feel to it at times, while also seamlessly blending in funk. This is one of the most original sounding nu-metal acts out there. |

Violence
A really heavy and relentless record with very solid production that compliments it. Probably one of the best bands in the genre and this is one of the best albums within the genre. |

Sinner
A band with great potential however after the passing of Dave Williams they decided to release very bland music with 2 very bland vocalists. This album has honestly aged better then I have expected, which surprised me in more then one way. |

Armageddon Through Your Speakers
One of the better combinations of hard rock and hip-hop. Makes for a fun listen from time to time. |

Invitation to the Dance
Every nu metal cliche is here and forefront, angst ridden lyrics, a good amount of rapping, and even screaming. However they're saved by a pretty great vocalist who manages to do all of that, except do it well. |

Home
The group is admittedly consistent, they're still one of the few groups from back then delivering more solid music that's not too different from what we've seen here. This is one of the more nu-metal sounding albums from their catalog. |

Gift
I still give this a few spins every now and then. I have a soft spot for Taproot and it started with this album, heavy as hell but at the same time might be a bit too cliche for it's own good. |

Tonight the Stars Revolt
Rob Zombie's nu metal little brother (figuratively and literally). This is still their finest release and to most their only "good" release. I used to love these guys and admittedly I saw them live not too long ago for nostalgic sake. Tell me you've found yourself singing "When Worlds Collide", you haven't? Only me? Well that figures... |
