02.15.12 | nice digz |
Foaming
02.15.12 | 1st Evil Dead is better, so is Fellowship of the Ring. |
AngelofDeath
02.15.12 | Nope. Evil Dead 2 and Two Towers are better. |
Satellite
02.15.12 | 3 isn't really a sequel imo. the book was, definitely.
the two towers
the dark knight because no stupid fear gas/katie holmes
the bourne supremecy
star trek: first contact |
sixthgoldenticket
02.15.12 | alien is way better than aliens but agree with this list otherwise |
Deviant.
02.15.12 | Best LOTR movie is Fellowship |
foreverjohndeered
02.15.12 | the matrix |
Hyperion1001
02.15.12 | fellowship was best, and alien was better than aliens by far
other than that yeah ever though i think evil dead 1 and 2 are about the same |
MUNGOLOID
02.15.12 | Toy Story 2 |
Trebor.
02.15.12 | Star Trek IV |
Hyperion1001
02.15.12 | star wars 1 |
Crysis
02.15.12 | all lotr movies are equally fucking awesome |
Hyperion1001
02.15.12 | no the two towers was significantly worse than fellowship and return |
foreverjohndeered
02.15.12 | bill and ted |
Ire
02.15.12 | leprechaun back 2 tha hood
TROLL 2 |
Trebor.
02.15.12 | Two Towers is my least favorite of the 3
Troll 2 yeah |
Ire
02.15.12 | return of the king is the worst of the three
1 and 2 are equal |
twlight
02.15.12 | I agree with Hep Kat, The Return of the King is the best lotr.
It's dumb to compare the three though because it's all the same movie, and they're all excellent |
Shuyin
02.15.12 | i think 2 towers has much more atmosphere, epic moments. the battle in the end is fucking awsome
return is overdone, and fellony gets a bit 'oh ok' when they reach the elves thing.. |
Trebor.
02.15.12 | Apollo 13
The first 12 sucked hard |
Crymsonblaze
02.15.12 | I disagree with 6 and 7. I prefer A New Hope and The Evil Dead, but it's more just personal preference really.
X2: X-Men United
That's really all I can think of that hasn't been said. |
Divine
02.15.12 | ^ haha nice, Trebor |
Deviant.
02.15.12 | Two Towers is terrible
Spend your entire movie building up to a fight that you keep cutting away from when you finally reach it |
Ignimbrite
02.15.12 | 4 is not correct. RotK is the best followed by TFotR. TT is the worst, although it still rules. |
Shuyin
02.15.12 | it has great moments, specially around Frodo. imo the battle was cool, just when the knights arrive it was like 'oh rly'. that and the unnecessary drama added in a few scenes are the movies weak points. after all a king and his knights are suposed to be tough hearted and not going like 'how did we come to this' when the enemy knocks the door |
qwe3
02.15.12 | the two towers was great, probably the best of the series. i like how it cut away, it accentuated the distance between the different members of the fellowship. gave a real sense of isolation to the hobbits.
also it managed to be good despite being based off the worst of the three books. that it also had a pretty clear narrative arc is also impressive seeing as it had to shrug off middle child syndrome |
Divine
02.16.12 | okay que3.............

Satellite
02.16.12 | sam's monologue toward the end of tt is one of my favorite scenes ever |
Satellite
02.16.12 | andcas, i'm guess he was referring to this as being the first film...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091474/
which really makes no sense because tsotl and red dragon (which is based on the book red dragon just like manhunter) exist within the same universe |
Divine
02.16.12 | Yea Satellite knows what I am talking about
But I replaced it anyways, just for you andcas ;) |
qwe3
02.16.12 | yeah which would make red dragon a prequel which is probably the worst thing ever |
qwe3
02.16.12 | oh way to comment before me guys...
"sam's monologue toward the end of tt is one of my favorite scenes ever"
yeahhhh love that |
Satellite
02.16.12 | but it is a prequel |

02.16.12 | "return of the king extended edition is like by far the best lotr thing in existence not written down"

the extended editions are mad though yeah. return of the king is also the worst because fucking minas tirith battle ends in the most retarded way. oh hey heaps of dead guys came and wiped this shit out nice pacing fuck |
Shuyin
02.16.12 | rotk is too overdone |
Divine
02.16.12 | "return of the king extended edition is like by far the best lotr thing in existence not written down"

02.16.12 | "It was cut from the movie because it was pointless for it to exist"
No, without it, Aragorn and the rest of them ride up to the gate only to gallop right back once the gates begin to open for Sauron's army. It makes that entire sequence seem really unnecessary and stilted.
It also makes the destruction of the Ring more powerful for the Fellowship since they get the impression that Frodo was captured (and, by extension, the Ring taken back) when the Mouth of Sauron throws Frodo's mithril mail shirt at Gandalf.
But, yeah, it works without it too. :P |
qwe3
02.16.12 | i dont like it cuz its awkwardly done |
Vesper
02.16.12 | Well, Jackson isn't a great director, so. |

02.16.12 | it's not an opinion, [shares opinion]
@vesp i think he's a pretty good director he just needs to stop devoting all his time to making shit look pretty with weta. i think he's pretty versatile, he just gets into these ruts like in lotr when hes like ok so im just gonna do a bunch of overhead shots of the uruk hai then some overhead shots of helms deep then overhead shots of the fellowship running then some of the riders of rohan then some more of the uruk hai then ;ajkrgajbvkzs |
Deviant.
02.16.12 | "No, without it, Aragorn and the rest of them ride up to the gate only to gallop right back once the gates begin to open for Sauron's army. It makes that entire sequence seem really unnecessary and stilted."
They back up because who wants to fight in a bottleneck? Unless you're a part of the 300 of course. No the scene doesn't work, because when it happens in the book the reader doesn't know what might have happened to Frodo & Sam. Remember each book is two parts, one for the two hobbits, and the other detailing the exploits of everyone else. But because Jackson cuts back and forth between the two, we know that Frodo & Sam haven't been caught
So, for a scene designed to create suspense it's pointless. Kinda like in TT when they threw Aragorn off a cliff, because even though we all knew the King had to return he still might've died right? RIGHT???? |
Shuyin
02.16.12 | it having dumb moments isnt really an opinion.

02.16.12 | Yeah, qwe, I should have been more specific that his direction in LotR gets old, especially his love for the overhead shot, haha.
I mean, it's impressive that that these were all done in one go, but I think that aspect begins to show with the stylistically repetitive shots and awkward cuts from all the editing down they had to do.
"They back up because who wants to fight in a bottleneck? Unless you're a part of the 300 of course."
I meant that it seems pointless for them to ride up there in the first place. I guess it kind of comes off as a "challenge", but it's not like being 200 yards away from the Black Gate is any less of a challenge than being 20 yards away.
"we know that Frodo & Sam haven't been caught"
I wasn't so much pointing to the effect it has on the audience so much as on the remaining members of the Fellowship to think that their friends and the entire point of this diversion, as Legolas so pointedly put it, may have been lost. |
qwe3
02.16.12 | yeah so many people point that out and the reason that didnt happen is THERE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN A FUCKING STORY |

agree, he explores it from the point of view of the fellowship rather than the audience. which depending on your view may or may not be weaker.
i think it's weaker but meh |
Crymsonblaze
02.16.12 | "its not an opinion, spider man has so many dumb moments"
Actually it is, and a rather dumb one at that. |
Deviant.
02.16.12 | Yeah it's definitely weaker. Like sure it plays on the fellowship, but seeing as how the viewer is privy to information that the character's aren't it essentially becomes a completely hollow moment, that just would have extended the movie far beyond its already bloated running time |
Vesper
02.16.12 | Yeah, I'd agree with both of you that the theater version was better without the Mouth of Sauron scene as it disrupts the flow of the film more than it's worth, but this is someone who's watched the extended version trilogy in one day, so, you know, I don't mind the extra running time for more book references. :P |
Deviant.
02.16.12 | Tbh I would rather have had that scene than watch the Army of the Dead show up and solve everyone's problems in what essentially ended up as being the most anti-climactic battle I've ever seen, and that ridiculous "I am no man" speech when what's her name kills the Witch King |
Vesper
02.16.12 | All the major battles in each of the films end on a somewhat anti-climactic note, although increasingly so by the third film.

Honestly, I laughed so hard at his line "DIE... NOW". Second favorite unintentionally comedic line after Legolas's classic, "A diversion."
