Ccm That Doesn't Suck
Music from my sheltered years that I still hold dear to me |
1 | | Aaron Sprinkle Moontraveler
One of alternative CCM's best producers. |
2 | | The Benjamin Gate Contact
South African group. Some polished hard rock with an impressive lead
singer, includes a cover of Colin Hay's (of Men at Work) "Overkill". The lyrics
are very religious-centered but the music is still enjoyable. |
3 | | Black Eyed Sceva 5 Years, 50,000 Miles Davis
A great college rock gem that my dad found in a used bin at Morning Star.
Ryan's Driveway is one of my favorite songs of all time. Recommended for
fans of Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. |
4 | | Bloomsday The Day the Colors Died
I'm not really sure how to describe these guys. Kinda like soft rock mixed
with grunge mixed with emo. Very poetic, and the album closer, which
clocks in at 11+ minutes, is killer. |
5 | | Chaos is the Poetry Chaos is the Poetry
Some great avant-garde CCM jazz. I wasn't aware this type of thing existed. |
6 | | Chevelle Wonder What's Next
Back when we thought they were a Christian band. My dad threw away his
copy of Vena Sera after purchasing it. lol |
7 | | Dear Ephesus The Consolation of Pianissimo
CCM punk/grunge. Some great lyrics. |
8 | | Earthsuit Kaliedoscope Superior
CCM reggae/rock. VERY late 90's/early 2000's. |
9 | | Emery The Question
You guys don't really need an explanation for this one, do you? |
10 | | Further Seems Forever Hide Nothing
CCM emo, their only album with lead singer Jon Bunch. His voice really
complimented the music well, it's a shame they never went anywhere after
this. |
11 | | Grammatrain Flying
CCM grunge. Not as heavy as their first album, but the production value
improved greatly. |
12 | | He is Legend I Am Hollywood
They're not technically Christian, but this was one of my favorite albums
growing up, and I found it at a Morning Star so who's to blame here? |
13 | | Jars of Clay Jars of Clay
A pioneer of CCM in the 90s. Their first album had a unique sound, which
they changed a lot in later years. This is their best album, but Much Afraid
still has their best, and one of CCM's best songs: "Frail". |
14 | | Johnny Q. Public Extra-Ordinary
The lead singer sounds very similar to the singer from Comets on Fire.
Some great lo-fi rock right here. |
15 | | Massivivid Brightblur
Industrial rock. I used to think this album was genius! It has lost its spark
over the years, but its still highly listenable. Drop is a GREAT song. |
16 | | Newsboys Take Me to Your Leader
WHEN THE TOAST IS BURNED AND ALL THE MILK HAS TURNED AND CAPTAIN
CRUNCH IS WAVING FAREWELL, WHEN THE BIG ONE FINDS YOU MAY THIS
SONG REMIND YOU THAT THEY DON'T SERVE BREAKFAST IN HELL |
17 | | Newsboys Thrive
Their last good album. Included because of "John Woo", one of Newsboy's
coolest tracks. |
18 | | Phil Keaggy Revelator
One of the greatest guitarists of all time, CCM legend Phil Keaggy made
some beautiful music with just nine fingers. The 13 minute guitar/drum jam
"The Further Adventures of..." is worth a listen. |
19 | | Plankeye Commonwealth
A great CCM indie rock group. I still play the title track often. |
20 | | Poor Old Lu Sin
A very eclectic CCM punk album. |
21 | | Project 86 Rival Factions
I was listening to secular music by the time this album came out, but this
still is a fun album to listen. A major departure from their original sound. |
22 | | Protest the Hero Fortress
Funny story about this one: I was allowed to buy this album because I
convinced my dad they were Christian. I was a bad kid. |
23 | | Showbread No Sir, Nihilism is Not Practical
One of the most spastic albums I have ever heard. I still can't believe they
let these guys sell records on a Christian label. |
24 | | Sixpence None The Richer The Waiting Room
A great album. |
25 | | Starflyer 59 Old
The best CCM shoegaze group, if not the only. |
26 | | Switchfoot Learning to Breathe
This is before Switchfoot sucked hard. |
27 | | Terry Scott Taylor John Wayne
This guy is awesome. |
28 | | "Weird Al" Yankovic Running With Scissors
The only secular artist I was allowed to listen to as a child. I still felt dirty
listening to it though. This guy can be grotesque sometimes... I mean,
compared to Apologetix. |
29 | | All Star United All Star United
Some great pop/rock songs that satire general Christian lifestyle. |
30 | | Tourniquet Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm
The greatest Christian metal band of all time. Period. |
