Mike08: Mewithoutyou Ten Stories

Mike08 05.03.12	This ranking for me is easy actually. I have alot of respect for mewithoutYou, this is the first bland album. UGH! It might overtake It's all crazy, but thats about it. I'm not sure. as to the rating yet. Either a 3 or a 3.5

Mike08 05.03.12	Baseline: A and C. - I rarely have a band's sound I LOVE, and mewithoutYou is unique for that. I think that Brother, Sister is pitch perfect, but I enjoy the rawer side of A to B, and the melodic catchy side to Its all false. This one takes elements from their last three albums, and strips the charm of each album. I also think that Weiss has a more commading voice then this. Each of the last four albums he has a voice that carries the whole album. Here he just sits quietly in the back and "sings." Easily his weakest both lyrically and vocally. Elephant in the Dock, Aubergine, and All Circles are throw away fillers

ThunderNeutral21 05.03.12	it doesnt suck feb 1878 is one of the best songs theyve ever written, all circle and bears vision are great too. Fox's Dream is also awesome. The rest is alright.
fuckthatnoise 05.03.12	3 > 5 > 4 > 1 > 2 Ten Stories is basically Catch For Us The Foxes Part 2. it's essentially that album filtered through elements that defined the 2 albums that succeeded it. Couldn't be happier with how it turned out, honestly.

VicariousIntent 05.03.12	I'm a huge mewithoutYou fan, and I love all the songs they've released so far. I really hope this album isn't disappointing like you guys are making it out to be...but this site tends to make a lot of things out to be disappointing when they're not.
Mike08 05.03.12	Vicarious Intent: I'm picky, sorry. The problem with bands I truly respect is that "adequate" isn't good enough. Nothing about this album rises above that level. There is also no new territory explored here. Weiss has dropped lyrically. This album might make a good homework album though (I don't mean that condecendingly actually). I'm a sucker for "Angel of Death" and "Timothy Hay" Album artwise: Its my third favorite behind Brother Sister, and A to B: Life

fuckthatnoise 05.03.12	Lyrically, i fail to see how this has dropped in terms of quality. The only reason i can think of is that people wouldn't be able to relate of the lyrics (lmao @ listening to music because you can "relate" to it), which is not an acceptable reason. Weiss's lyrics on this album are just as good as anything he's done before. It's actually better in many regards. Plus, this is a more consistent album than Brother Sister. Although i will admit, the high points on 10S aren't as impressive as those on B,S (Wolf Am I! and In a Market Dimly Lit, especially), but at the same time, even the weakest tracks on 10S i wouldn't consider to be anything worse than decent, but Brother Sister had a couple of tracks that i reeeeaaaaally wasn't a fan of. (C-Minor and The Sun and The Moon; also, while it's not a bad song, All Circles is definitely a more impactful album closer than In A Sweater Poorly Knit.)
Mike08 05.03.12	Elephant in the Dock and Aubergiene, and Aubergiene gets really boring at the choruses. I also feel that the riffs overstay their welcome. Like OPEEEEEETH, they don't quite know when to pull that plug.
