Gonna admit, still not the biggest fan of the nu-metal genre. There are some bands, however, that decided to evolve ahead of the genre by incorporating with other subgenres along the way. Some albums that showcase my opinion:
I know they're supposed to be the poster boys for nu metal and the reason a lot of people hate the genre, but I'd still take Korn and Slipknot over most of these bands. I don't really consider SOAD nu metal though. 15 is probably the pinnacle of the genre.
Also regarding #3 if the Deftones were ever nu metal (debatable) then surely it was around the Adrenaline/Around the fur era. Diamond Eyes is like a whole different beast.

@Britch2tiger, after reading your explanation for the list I have a new respect for what you were going for with these choices. At first it seemed random having Diamond Eyes as the choice but as your list is showcasing the progression of the Deftones by incorporating shoegaze, electronic elements into their music it makes more sense. After all is said and done, its your perspective and no one can deny you that. So apologies if my comment came across like an elitist prick.
'"i dont like nu metal but heres the nu metal i like!"'
nah more like 'i don't like nu-metal but heres the stuff that's tangentially related to nu-metal that i can admit to liking'
