JohnnyoftheWell
06.27.22 | YIKES yeet
that Egarran can even be remotely posited as a source of wit and Ars of precision is an indictment of how far this hallowed institution has fallen

ArsMoriendi
06.27.22 | I feel like it died because not enough people rate songs and then those who only rec them feel guilty for not listening
So key here is to rate! |

06.28.22 | "I feel like it died because not enough people rate songs and then those who only rec them feel guilty for not listening"
i sometimes wonder if commentary like mine might have had a negative impact on it, like maybe i was too harsh?
i do think people also started picking more and more songs that don't really work for the format, like if people are stretched for the time do you really want to listen to a list that includes a 10+ minute song?
lastly, i thought that the more convoluted themes tended to result in less participation, but that might have been a perception thing. |
MiloRuggles
06.28.22 | i am returned and eternal, shouts out le orchestre, they beckon me and ye
let me know when you post the list pangea or else i will miss it and sob |
MiloRuggles
06.28.22 | okok quick take opinions on the back of the foggy1
-harsh commentary is great and must remain
-10+ minute songs should maybe be banned unless called for by theme
-convoluted themes maybe ok, themes that require effortposting (i'm looking at you _well) are a travesty, i do these things in like weekly batches
-you are all nice and music is cool |
ArsMoriendi
06.28.22 | Yeah tbh the extra long songs is why I needed a break
I say max ‘em out at 8 tbh, I groan when I see an EPIC PROG BLACK METAL SONG BY ACCLAIMED BAND OPETH even if it’s like like 9 mins tbh |
ArsMoriendi
06.28.22 | Those 2 back to to back versions of the same 17 min folk song were pretty much torture too
You guys keep that shit up and I’ll murder SotD with more 20 min Zappa songs
So uh… yeah if someone picks a song over 8 mins refuse to include it tbh |
Pangea
06.28.22 | Will do Milo!
i liked the unwritten 10 minute rule we had some point. Long songs are great and some of the long recs i really loved but it can make catching more intimidating. Either 8 or 10 minute tops would be good i think
I think ideally a theme finds the balance of being fun and non-restricting in rec choices without asking too much from the participants because that does influence activity |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.28.22 | tbqh I wouldn't mind adopting a firm line and cutting off at 6 minutes. would happily sacrifice the rec freedom if it made these that much easier to motor through |
ArsMoriendi
06.28.22 | 6 seems too short maybe |
Hyperion1001
06.28.22 | ive def got the time to participate but I’m not exactly sure how it works. |
Shemson
06.28.22 | Please be in awe of my laziness when I ask - do you guys compile the songs of the day lists into a spotify (or similar) playlist?
If so, I think that’d see me get involved, I love recommending and finding new stuff! |
ArsMoriendi
06.28.22 | I forgot who did it, but somebody used to
Sometimes the songs aren’t on Spotify though only YouTube, SoundCloud and/or Bandcamp |
Pangea
06.28.22 | Nol did it for a couple of months that was super useful. I can create one for next month
I will explain Hyp, sorry if the description here was a little unclear!
Each month there is a host that will publish the list with a theme for that particular month. Then other users can recommend songs that fit the theme. Each song fills a particular day in each month until every day in the month has a song. The orginal idea was that everyone can listen to a song each day and give it a rating, but it's also okay to do in batches!
If you want to enter you have to comment the artist + track name (from which album also please!) + a link (preferably youtube or bandcamp as not everyone has spotify, but adding spotify additionally is okay as well) |
Shemson
06.28.22 | This sounds great, looking forward to it |
SlothcoreSam
06.28.22 | The more obscure the theme the better, makes you search through your back catalogue for that ideal song, that's going to get roasted by 50%. |
Hyperion1001
06.28.22 | alright cool, yeah I’ll participate. ill look out for the list. |
