Pangea 03.08.21	yeah he has done better, but the clown is hos first excellent album for me. RE your sound-off: the bookends are certainly the showstoppers but i enjoy the middle tracks a lot as well

bgillesp 03.10.21	T/t is my least favorite on The Clown. I feel like the whole album is one I need to be in the right frame of mind to properly appreciate, but I never have been in the few times I’ve listened to it.

porcupinetheater 03.10.21	Yeah, can definitely see The Clown clashing with the context the rest of the record sets up for it, but as a standalone piece of musical narrative thought it was potent as Hell

Pangea 03.11.21	Mingus' bass playing is fantastic for sure, especially in the first track here. so good never considerd the mark hollis album soothing personally but i could see it
Trifolium 03.11.21	I like how disjointed The Clown is (eeeeeek, how's that for nightmare fuel!). One moment it's very old school, 50s jazz, the other it kind of explodes in your face. Planning to check the Hollis one later today too. I've never really liked the Talk Talk stuff too much, especially the vox, so I'm kind of hesitant towards it.
Pangea 03.11.21	it is very unsettling for sure! i'm not super huge on his voice in talk talk as well, but i do find that the fragility of his voice works really well on his solo album. hopefully you will feel the same!
Trifolium 03.11.21	It is indeed as I feared, Hollis just isn't my man it seems. Still really like the instrumentation for the most part though! Makes it super hard to rate aah! Thanks for two records I would not have otherwise checked Pangea! Despite them not totally being my thing I really still enjoyed it because I wouldn't ever have made the effort to give them a chance. Best track of the lot: the opener of The Clown! Loved that one!
porcupinetheater 03.14.21	Woah, the Mark Hollis record is absolutely not surprisingly v gorgeous. Cool hearing the reframed context of a lot of the Talk Talk work. Still trying to sort out feelings on the Clown, a week playing with some very nuanced and ambiguous tones. Sweet calls, Pange j/
porcupinetheater 03.14.21	Westward Bound leaves me so powerfully melancholy, and then the playful, even a little goofy horns start off The Daily Planet right after, and the very subtle dissonance of the effect is a little bit exciting tbh
Pangea 03.14.21	Oh yes somewhat of a weird transition but it works really well. The Daily Planet in general is stunning. And yeah i feel like his solo is still very much in spirit of the latter talk talk albums, but in a more jazzy chamber setting rather than a rock one. His use of using space in his song compositions is so good.
bgillesp 03.15.21	I liked the Hollis album. Pretty minimal on the jazz and just overall but I liked Talk Talk so it was still nice for me
