dumb top 10 of 2017 list
a similar list of the top ten albums i listened to in the timeframe of 2017 that also came out in 2017. No late discoveries (after new years allowed). Elder, Converge, Dragonforce and Manchester Orchestra almost made it. |
10 | | Kreator Gods of Violence
lyrics are god awful compared to their glory days, but the fact that these older men are kicking my ass musically is something i take personal, meanwhile a lot of their contemporaries are just embarrassing or called it quits. |
9 | | Soundtrack (Film) Baby Driver |
8 | | Jay-Z 4:44
with only one producer, a properly tight run time and few select features Jay gives us a snapshot of what life is like after a decade of being at the top. |
7 | | Polkadot Stingray 全知全能
From the underground to Oricon charts with one song. |
6 | | Blind Guardian Live Beyond the Spheres
this year was so bad a live album is on it. I wish they sampled the show i attended, but instead, 3 whole discs of various shows. Production is pretty weak but the excellent renditions of deep cuts are jaw-dropping. |
5 | | Brand New Science Fiction
joining David Bowie on the list of great pedophile artists who went out on a high note. |
4 | | Galneryus Ultimate Sacrifice
And i thought their last release was neoclassical metal's logical extreme...This is the problem of about being (too) good at guitar, after experimentation Syu's back at doing what he's good at. |
3 | | Band-Maid Just Bring It
j-pop hard rock with appropriate edge, tight performances and memorable choruses. |
2 | | The Menzingers After the Party
oh ye heartland punk perfection...
This is a very emotional album of hook after hook, with very little substance behind it. |
1 | | Ayreon The Source
rock opera ain't dead
Kind of an end of the year rec that lead to me marathoning the 88 minute run time on Christmas. Asides for "Journey to Forever" - thinking this is cheesy is your problem. I don't give a damn about the story, the variety of musical styles and ideas shoved in here makes time fly by. |
