LOUD NOISES

a beginners guide to the essentials of noise rock.
1The Jesus Lizard
Goat

probably the most recognized noise rock album of all time
2Big Black
Songs About Fucking

Legendary producer Steve Albini's magnum opus.
3Scratch Acid
The Greatest Gift

One of the most influential underground punk outfits with a sound that's exactly like their namesake.
4The Birthday Party
Prayers on Fire

Nick Cave's original band in the early 80s. This band created some of the most bleak and challenging post punk at the time and became quite controversial.
5Sonic Youth
EVOL

This band basically changed the way guitar could be played. No melody here, all heavy, distorted walls of atmosphere.
6Dinosaur Jr.
You're Living All Over Me

Speaking of distortion, this band brought insanely raw production, heavy as fuck guitars, and combined it with melody and rather traditional song structure. band is still kicking ass to this day.
7Cows
Cunning Stunts

No mainstream appeal here. All frantic rhythms, rough vocals, and guitar riffs that sound like they were made in the lab of a meth addict.
8Killdozer
Twelve Point Buck

absolutely insane lyrics backed by a wall of sound that rivals early Sonic Youth.
9Laughing Hyenas
Life of Crime

pretty straightforward song structures with an incredible guitar tone and extremely heavy bass. really great entry level noise rock.
10Hammerhead
Into the Vortex

extremely catchy yet absolutely insane tracks on this thing with everything you could possibly want from a noise rock band: loud everything.
11Unsane
Unsane

this band rips. not much more to say.
12KEN mode
Reprisal

borderline sludge metal. But ya this band absolutely shreds and every record of theirs is great. easily the best modern noise rock outfit.
13Daughters
Daughters

I like their newest record a tad bit more, but this is probably more essential just because it is a bit less obscure. This band is heavier and weirder than almost anything else out there. This is a modern classic (so is YWGWYW)
14Boredoms
Vision Creation Newsun

some classic and crazy noise rock from our friends in Japan. pretty avant garde stuff here so I suggest listening to this after most of the other records on here.
15Shellac
At Action Park

another Albini classic. just listen to it.
16Flipper
Album – Generic Flipper

highly influential underground band. This album is anything but generic lol
17Fudge Tunnel
Hate Songs In E Minor

basically Nirvana but way better and louder.
18Swans
Filth

the definitive no wave album. the most dark album Ive ever heard
19Lightning Bolt
Wonderful Rainbow

saved the best for last. the most frantic, deafening, and batshit crazy band on the planet.
