Recent Vinyl Spins

I've been listening to my records a lot more recently, feels great man.
1White Lung
Sorry

just bought this, local Vancouver punk band that I'm seeing in March. Really great
catchy but aggressive punk with female vocals.
2Elliott Smith
Figure 8

bought this as well. it was $30 but it's 2 180 gram LPs, first pressing since its
release, and I fucking love this record. whatever, worth it.
3The Weakerthans
Reconstruction Site

and he thought about how everyone dies someday, and when tomorrow gets here
where will yesterday be, and fell asleep in his brand new winter coat. Buy me a
shiny new machine that runs on lies and gasoline and all those batteries we stole
from smoke alarms.
4The National
High Violet

Sasquatch is coming, and I've been reminiscing of when I bought this before seeing
them there in 2010. I met 3 of them and they signed my record, it was ace. The
performance was, to this day, still one of the best live shows I have seen.
5Deerhunter
Halcyon Digest

another Sasquatch-inspired vinyl jam. I thought this band was good but overrated
until I decided to heed a friend's advice and make sure I saw their set at Sasquatch
2011. I saw the whole thing and they blew my poor peasant mind. I rushed to the
vinyl tent immediately to buy this record. It's white, bonus. Deerhunter are now
one of my favourite bands.
6The Mountain Goats
We Shall All Be Healed

This song is for the people who tell their families they're sorry for things they can't
and won't feel sorry for.
7Raein
Sulla linea d'orizzonte tra questa mia vita e que

I bought this when I saw them a couple of weeks ago. It was my first real screamo
show and the venue was perfect. It was this small back room of a dingy little
record shop in the heart of Vancouver's dowtown eastside (read: sketch as fuck).
It was my first time getting involved in Vancouver's underground hardcore culture
and overall it was a great night. 3 bands played, including a local band and one
from California. Anyway Raein were great and I bought this record (that's my
favourite way to support musicians that I have stolen from or intend to steal from:
go to their shows and buy merch).
8Hop Along
Get Disowned

Late Christmas present from my best friend. My favourite album of 2012, I love
owning this on vinyl mainly because the artwork is so great, and also it came with a
really unique lyric sheet/weird drawing thing that I kind of want to hang on my
wall....
9La Dispute
Somewhere at the Bottom of the River...

Jammed this a couple of weeks ago in preparation for seeing them live (with Hot
Water Music and The Menzingers, 3 great bands). I saw them before but it was
like 5 songs and it was basically me and four or five other people who actually gave
a shit. This time around they had two LPs to draw from and a lot more fans. They
played 9 songs, including Andria, which was a religious experience for me. I've
always wanted to see that live, so glad they played it. Other highlights: Harder
Harmonies (I had/was near the mic for various parts during "there's a melody in
everything i'm trying to find a harmony but nothing seems to work. nothing! fits!"),
Why It Scares Me, and closing combo of A Poem/King Park. I would have bought
Wildlife on yellow vinyl probably, but they sold out quickly, probably a good thing
cause I'm pretty poor and that was already an expensive night.
10Neil Young
Harvest

Had dinner with a friend last night. She recently got her record player working so
we jammed some of her oldies (but goodies) including this one, and:
11Lou Reed
Rock 'n' Roll Animal

Great live album. I asked her if she had heard Lulu, she hadn't, and I attempted to
explain what it was and how universally panned it was. It was difficult to convey
my opinion on the matter... ANYWAY this record is sweet, I'd never heard the
whole thing before. We also listened to:
12Joni Mitchell
Blue

So so so so SO jealous of her for having this. Every time I see it, it's at least $40.
Anyway, Go Canada! Album is amazing, whatever.
13How to Dress Well
Total Loss

on the fence, trying to decide how you feel about a certain artist? Well, if they
play a venue 5 minutes from where you live, I would advise going. MINDBLOWING
live show, immediately purchased vinyl and shook the fuck out of Tom Krell's hand.
PINK SWIRL VINYL omg he stole my heart. (I was really high on some gooood shit
that night, wow.)
14Jung People
Tenterhooks

Great great fucking GREAT post-rock from Alberta. this is my roomate's record but I
jam it weekly at least. it's translucent green too, swag.
15Laura Stevenson and the Cans
Sit Resist

Gettin my hype gun loaded
16Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

classic jamz. first/second best album ever made.
17Japandroids
Post-Nothing

I'll pick up the new one when I have money. So glad to see these guys starting to
get some recognition. The Vancouver Canucks are having a contest for the new
entrance song for home games, and "The House that Heaven Built" is in the final 6
hahaha. other choices: Volbeat, Nickelback (obvs), Sweet Child o Mine (please god
no). I hope hope hope jpndrds wins. Pitchfork did an article about it, VOTE!!! even
if you don't live in BC/Canada just help me out!!! I wanna go to a game this year
and hearing that as they skate on the ice instead of Nickelback would make my
fucking day.
18A Place to Bury Strangers
A Place to Bury Strangers

Pink/purple/silver/gold/everything-coloured swirl, 180 gram. It's so. fucking. cool.
Also, great damn album.
19Sunny Day Real Estate
Diary

This one of the favourite things in my ~100 record collection for the following
reasons: 1. It's my favourite indie/emo album. 2. It's two LPs of translucent pink
vinyl, looks soooo sexy when it plays. 3. Artwork is amazing, espeically full size. 4.
Came with a full size book complete with stories, lyrics, and 5 or 6 amazing pieces
of artwork in the same theme as the cover. Ugh I love this thing so much. If my
house burns down I would save all my signed records first, then this one, then all
my other colored or rare records before gtfo-ing.
20Yo La Tengo
Popular Songs

I want the new one but it's like $22 and I'm not at a place in my life where I can
spend that much money on a 4.1 maybe if it was like a 4.3 amitire?
