Favorite 2016 albums

Both a great and terrible year for music. Many losses yet many great albums too. List is albums I managed to check out and I liked at least for a few listens. Feel free to recommend any stuff. The middle part is a blur mostly because I moved them up and down ten times already (for example I just started listening to Whores - Gold).
1The Dear Hunter
Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional

The most ambitious and consistent Act, I love it.
2David Bowie
Blackstar

An amazing album. I still can't get over the fact he died.
3Chevelle
The North Corridor

Great stuff, but it requires a certain mood to be truly rewarding
4Deftones
Gore

Not as majestic as previous albums, but I keep going back at it and songs constantly get stuck in my head.
5Moby
These Systems Are Failing

Nobody expected this from Moby and it delivers. A wake up call with matching music
6Underworld
Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future

Lovely stuff, melodic and fun.
7Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool

Hauntingly beautiful.
8SUMA
The Order of Things

Heavy as fuck.
9Thrice
To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere

The only album of theirs I dug so far.
10Swans
The Glowing Man

Seeing them live only confirmed me how great they are.
11Motorpsycho
Here Be Monsters

Lovely hippie/summery vibe.
12Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Getaway

Some songs are darker, some were the soundtrack to my holiday at the sea. Great album nevertheless.
13Filter
Crazy Eyes

Richard finally went out of his comfort zone and released something less conventional.
14Gozu
Revival

Bad ass attitude.
15Ulver
ATGCLVLSSCAP

More engaging than previous stuff, I like it.
16Causa Sui
Return To Sky

They can't go wrong.
17Nine Inch Nails
Not the Actual Events

Very late addition. Great EP as a whole.
18Conan
Revengeance

Brutal!
19Opeth
Sorceress

The best of the prog series so far. More powerful, however, I would love to hear again something similar to Ghost Reveries.
20Zaum
Eidolon

A darker sequel, I admire the attention to the atmospheric details.
21Yawning Man
Historical Graffiti
22Khemmis
Hunted
23Beastwars
The Death of All Things

Too bad this is probably their last album...
24The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Third World Pyramid

The easiest digestible BJM record.
25Hammock
Everything and Nothing

I am still amazed how these guys manage to release 70+ minute albums and make them so easy to listen as a whole.
26Chihei Hatakeyama and Dirk Serries
The Storm Of Silence

A soothing ambient listen.
27Zippo
After Us

I recently fell in love with this again after seeing them live. It's much better than the rating on the website.
28Wilco
Schmilco

A different side of Wilco. I like the sarcastic, pessimist attitude.
29Bat For Lashes
The Bride

God she's so hot!!!
30Wo Fat
Midnight Cometh

They could easily write groovy riffs during their sleep.
31Kayo Dot
Plastic House on Base of Sky

Cool stuff but hard to get into. After seeing them live, everything clicked.
32The Pineapple Thief
Your Wilderness

Good album. They should write some heavier songs from time to time though.
34Earth Ship
Hollowed
35Green Day
Revolution Radio

I like this. If only Billie wrote better lyrics...
36Tycho
Epoch

Not as good as Awake, but a cool record.
37Lionize
The Voyage

Too bad it's only an EP.
38Chihei Hatakeyama
Coastal Railroads in Memories

Another soothing ambient listen.
39Tim Hecker
Love Streams

I recently started listening to his music. I like it.
40Throttlerod
Turncoat
41Inter Arma
Paradise Gallows
42Santana
Santana IV

Better than expected. Still, a bit too long for its own good.
43Church of the Cosmic Skull
Is Satan Real?
44Wes Borland
Crystal Machete

I hope Black Light Burns is not dead yet.
45Buckethead
Buildor

There are no big highlights within the Pikes this year, however, some of them are great.
46Primal Scream
Chaosmosis
47Marsen Jules
Shadows In Time

More soothing ambient.
48Mogwai
Atomic
49Metallica
Hardwired... to Self-Destruct

I recently had time to listen more to it. It's great. However, Lars drags it down like always and it's a shame since Hetfield did his best.
50Demonauta
Tierra del Fuego

Cool, fuzzy stoner.
51Christian Fennesz and Jim O'Rourke
It's Hard for Me to Say I'm Sorry

Nice stuff. However, I want a new Fennesz album.
52Graves at Sea
The Curse That Is
53Haken
Affinity

A bit cheesy, but cool stuff anyways.
54Tauusk
Hunter
55Black Mountain
IV
56Nosound
Scintilla

Too bad it went unnoticed on Sputnik.
57Buckethead
Florrmat
58New Keepers of the Water Towers
Infernal Machine
59Explosions in the Sky
The Wilderness

Not a big fan of these guys, but this is nice.
60Moby
Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep.

Long journey, but does the job. Btw, it's free.
61Rob Zombie
The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy...

The songs would've been better if they were developed more. Still, it has some fun moments.
62Valerinne
Monumenta

Post rock apocalypse bonanza. Too long, but delivers.
63The Living End
Shift

Lacks the catchiness of previous records.
64Caronte
Codex Babalon
65Garbage
Strange Little Birds

More of a guilty pleasure, I like listening to their stuff every once in a while.
66Blink-182
California

Better than expected, however Tom's departure left a big hole in the creative process. Still, Travis and Mark done a good job in bringing back that uplifting atmosphere. I wasn't a big fan of Neighborhoods, I think this is a step up. In the end, they should've continued as +44 and leave Blink behind.
