Nag's Graspop Report

It was great.
1God Seed
I Begin

First band I saw. We meant to start with Moonspell who were playing on the same stage a little earlier, but the drive/parking/getting to the festival terrain took longer than expected. Since there was nothing else of particular interest playing at that time, we stuck around for these guys. I thought they were ok; nevertheless it was a good way to warm up for what was to come.
2Ghost B.C.
Infestissumam

Only listened to their albums today, after seeing them in the flesh, and I must say those songs really came to life with their performance. Ghost were an unexpected highlight: the masks and hooded robes seemed nothing more than a gimmick to me, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well-executed a show they put on. The vocals were far more powerful, the little theatric gestures and interaction with the crowd were great. The sound was really clear too, all in all a lot of fun.
3 Iron Maiden
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Maiden were the main reason for attending the festival, of course. I previously saw them two years ago on The Final Frontier tour, which was actually a little dissapointing (partly because of the length and number of newer songs). Yesterday it was all forgotten, as they played a great set of classics centered around Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and put on a great show as they always do. Such great fun roaring along with every chorus, although they did not play Hallowed Be Thy Name. Alas, somehow I was satisfied enough to forgive them this blasphemy. Screeeam for me, Graspop!
4Testament
Dark Roots of Earth

We had a little disagreement about seeing King Diamond or Testament, who were playing at the same time at the very end of the evening, as the others in my party had already seen Testament before. As I was intent on seeing them myself, we went our seperate ways for the final act. Getting away from Maiden took a while, so I didn't have a great view of the band itself, but they played an absolutely great set, almost only songs from their first two and last two albums. They played them faster and heavier, and they ruled. The perfect way to close the night.
