08.31.09 | I swear that #2 has been following me for the past couple weeks; bout time that I check it out. A recommendation for #1 would be a band called Yume Bitsu - Forkner's previous expirimentation which is more of a psychedelic/shoegaze sway. Other than that, I'm afraid I am a little lost on the rest of these albums... seems I have more to explore - thanks! |
Yotimi
08.31.09 | Check out Philip Glass - Koyaaniasqatsi. Or just check out that movie, it's friggin sweet. |

09.01.09 | blabony - I would recommend #2 very highly. It's pretty much neo-classical with very subtle electronic moments, but again, very very subtle most of the time. #1 is the band that got me started on this musical trend, though they are probably the most electronic. Check YouTube for the video of theirs (just type in their name) that is made of footage from an Antarctic research station. It's an incredible song. All of this stuff is sloooow and at times pretty depressing so keep that in mind (particularly Library Tapes, Johann at times, Jacaszek).. Goldmund is problably among the most accessible stuff in this genre since there are more vocals and whatnot.
Yotimi - Love Glass and the whole Qatsi trilogy (particlarly Koyaanisqatsi) |

09.01.09 | By the way, Goldmund afaik is basically Helios, another band from the same label. Same founder maybe? Not sure yet, pretty new to them, but I think Helios is a little more established. Several of these groups are on the Type label, so have a look through their catalogue if you find any of these interesting. |

09.01.09 | Thanks for the rec nick, I heard about Yume Bitsu when I checked out Surface of Eceon but still haven't heard them... will check out now... also... just to add a rec for anyone reading this list, "Night of the Ankou" by The North Sea and Ramses III is a amazingly hypnotic little drone/folk album... also on Type records, and the whole thing is streaming their website. |
Electric City

09.01.09 | Already got that one Electric, so you're definitely on the right track in terms of recs.. lol
blabony, thanks and no problem for the recs. Based on the music you're currently into according to your chart, this stuff will be quite different! Keep an open mind though and you might like it. |

09.02.09 | reich maybe? dunno |

09.02.09 | yeah, get some Steve Reich, especially Music For 18 Musicians. Also maybe some Stars of the Lid for pleasant nappy times. Also, its not exactly in the same vein as these, but Edward Elgars Enigma Variations is a minimalist classical suite from the early 20th century. I think you would especially enjoy Variation No. 9 - Nimrod, especially if you like Johann Johannsson. |
Zion
09.02.09 | Thanks, I will check it out when I get off of work. I've been wanting to get more into classical, modern or otherwise. I see he was master of the king's music. Now I'm compelled to check out the other composers who held that title. |
