Vesper 09.22.11	Since you're a girl, you'll probably flinch more at the clit-snipping. But, honestly, I don't think it was that graphic and many of the shots are beautiful enough to make up for it... but I've watched The Thing, Black Death, and Apocalypto during my past three dinners, so I don't know if I'm the best judge of this, hahaha.
Kubrick 09.22.11	Movie is soooooo good. There are so many scenes that will burn themselves into your mind, and I don't mean the genital mutilation scenes. It's seriously a breathtakingly beautiful movie. Don't hesitate to watch it... yeah there's some graphic scenes but there's so much more to it than that and it's pretty unforgettable in a lot of good ways. Also, really excited to see Melancholia. I have a feeling it's going to be my favorite film this year.. I can barely stop watching the trailer haha.

vmcoia91 09.22.11	Okay I'll give it a watch. And yes Melancholia is easily my most anticipated film of this fall. I'm actually pissed at myself because like 2 months back there was a theater near me that was screening everyday for 1 week only and I missed it.

Vesper 09.22.11	Yeah, if you're a von Trier fan, you'll be fine. It's just the people convinced he's a misogynistic Nazi that seem to rail against his movies over the graphic bits (even though he's said he actually identifies with his female characters).
Kubrick 09.22.11	It's interesting to me that most of the people making those assertions about von Trier are men. In fact.. female critics seemed to have a much better reaction to the film than male critics. All of the reviews that I saw which accused the film of misogyny were written by men. Funny... I mean you'd think a movie as misogynistic and sexist as some of those critics claim would probably be a bit more offensive to the actual members of the gender it is supposedly bashing. ..... Then again... maybe the female acceptance and approval of this film was actually von Trier's EXACT intention and REINFORCES his point that women are naturally violent, deranged creatures, thereby VALIDATING misogyny. DUN DUNN DUNNNNNNNNN

Kubrick 09.22.11	I don't think you could really call it overrated considering you couldn't say it has anything better than mixed reviews. There's just as many critics that absolutely hated the movie than those that liked it.. even more so probably. But yeah, I agree to to an extent. It doesn't necessarily succeed on the level of making any coherent point other than that nature runs by chaos rather than order and that rational thought will never be able to overcome the inherent irrationality of emotions and human nature. In terms of atmosphere and style though, it succeeds on essentially every level in my opinion. There is really nothing quite like watching this movie and it's not something you can easily forget.

The woman drills right through his leg with a manual drill, and inserts a metal rod with a grindstone on it. and this A woman gets a pair of scissors and cuts off her clitoris. movie sounds like a winner

If you think of 'antichrist' as a really dark comedy it's a rather excellent movie. but anyway I just came back from watchin' 'drive' and really I'd say skip antichrist and watch that instead. plus you get to see christina hendricks head explode!
vmcoia91 09.23.11	Drive was great, saw it opening weekend. Antichrist ended up being just okay. There was some beautiful shots and I love Charlotte but it's nothing I would sit through again.
