only God can give me guidance for this task, which I am clearly inadequately equipped to broach |

11 | | 10tet 10tet
i can't even put 10tet in tenth position for maximum synchronicity. what the fuck |
10 | | David Thomas Broughton Crippling Lack
a crippling lack of confidence in this list more like! / no lyric has even pinned me quite as much as "open to suggestion but too timid to ask" |
9 | | Vanessa Rossetto The way you make me feel
...actually this one is pretty good. it can stay. |
8 | | American Football American Football (LP2)
argue with me i dare you. |
7 | | Julius Eastman Femenine
me too Julius, if you can say indecision is a feminine quality, which it isn't outside of societal coding, but you get the gist of this laborious set-up |
6 | | Santiago Astaburuaga Grado de Potencia #1
good |
5 | | Sun Kil Moon God Bless Ohio
not an album but Mark does more in ten minutes than most people can do in quadruple that time so i'll fight my corner. richly cinematic and novelistic, i refuse to omit this in a year where Kozelek has provided me with so much comfort. Carry me Mark. |
4 | | Graham Lambkin Community
"Philip are you playing your depressed British monologue man music again" |
3 | | Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool
"Philip are you playing your depressed British banshee music again" |
2 | | Toshiya Tsunoda Somashikiba
A horse graveyard, outlying areas, a biosphere of movement and history. The undisputed maestro of field recordings. Shh. Listen. |
1 | | Reed Evan Rosenberg / Ethan Tripp Medium Rude
The most thrilled, nauseated and ultimately moved by an EAI album I'd been in eons; mouth left agape at the daring climax; an insight into turbulent psyches, sure, but a return trip. Listened to in Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, in the sun and the snow. A timely reminder that solitudinous behaviour is not necessarily analogous to loneliness. Textures yielded I hadn't encountered. Confident this won't be usurped. Teach me to love, but first teach me the kind of bravery that makes this album possible. |
