05.27.17 | Oh shit, Oldboy. The Korean one, not the remake. And also Snowpiercer.
Under the Sun is on netflix. Its a minimalist documentary on North Korea. Theres no narration and there are a ton of quiet moments. |
Deathconscious
05.27.17 | One more and im done: Mind Game. Its a japanese animated film (not an anime). Its life affirming and weird as shit and funny all at once. Though id say it goes a bit over "light" surrealism at times. |
Winesburgohio
05.27.17 | i use the term 'bitch' as a term of jocular endearment not to be confused with a gendered slur!!!
umm o.k. this is some good shit except for Lost in Translation which is fine

Papa Universe
05.27.17 | About an adventure on the ocean to rpove the impossible: Kon-Tiki
About the unavoidable end of everything and a small ray of hope amidst all the chaos of the world: Children of Men
About a love that blossomed, but sadly only for one of the parties (I found this one to be quite sad to be honest, but it's a sweet movie nonetheless): 500 Days of Summer
About an absolute scumbag, who is somewhat nice inside; he was just released from prison and now he's going to settle his debts with everyone else: Dom Hemighway
About a dream and a journey to achieve that dream: The Wind Rises
Well this is just some crazy shit: Shoot 'Em All
About understanding one another without having a mutual language, also about finding your place in the world: L'illusionniste
About trying to escape your past and easily one of the most repulsive, digusting and repulsive villains I've ever seen on film: Brimstone
A really complex film about espionage, but also about getting old, out of form and remembering the past, when things were nice and colourful: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
About escaping the impossible situation in a brutal and quite horrifying way: The Raid and The Raid 2
Anthology about the scariest, but also most creative shit you'll ever see: V/H/S and V/H/S/2 (But don't watch VHS 3, cause it's shit)
Bittersweet (but mostly sad) film about Alzheimer and being old and coping with reality around you as your mind slowly deteriorates: Florida (the French one, with Jean Rochefort)
A hilarious Western short film, narrated by Nick Offerman: The Gunfighter
Beautifully bittersweet film about technology and unusual love: Her
About a bloake, who's unable to distinguish reality from imagination, and who falls in love and what comes after is a lot of weirdness, dancing, bunnies and hands. What? That doesn't make any sense? Well, welcome into the Michel Gondry's world, that's just the kind of stuff he makes: The Science of Sleep
I think that'll do it for now. |
Winesburgohio
05.27.17 | thank you so much, very comprehensive!!! shit i have a lot to catch up on
as weird as it feels to say 'thanks adolf': thanks adolf! that kind of understated dark humour is my shit -- have u seen Toni Erdmann or Force Majeure? |

05.27.17 | Second Children of Men and VHS hard, though i dont find VHS scary at all, some of it is fucking hilarious. "Papaaaaa...." kills me every time. |
Deathconscious
05.27.17 | Nah i havent, is it in that same kind of vein? |
Winesburgohio
05.27.17 | yeah, former is quite languidly based but quite beautiful and emotionally earned, the second is more farcical and funnier when you think about it hindsight, if that makes sense
gotta try vhs! Children of Men is eternal, better than the novel |
EphemeralEternity
05.27.17 | V/H/S films really aren't frightening at all, and they're hit or miss but some of the shorts are well made and interesting takes on trite content.
Check out REC (And to some extent REC 2) if you want to be spooked ,but admittedly most of this is thru jump scares.
Also the Poughkeepsie tapes is pretty unsettling/sickening considering the subject matter realism to actual events. |

If you delve deep into the Internet, you can find The Trip to Spain (I don't even remember where). It's pretty good, there's an interesting twist that's been controversial, too. The Trip to Italy is actually my favorite movie, so I was insanely hyped. |
