Because of the nature of live albums, there is no length constraint for recs
Live versions of specific albums are OK but it is preferred that the album be wholly original | 2 | | NoMeansNo Live + Cuddly
pjorn
From the spanish wailing in the beginning to the oddly abrupt closer, “Live + Cuddly” is an aggressive, full frontal assault of punk jams. As I expected the bass is fucking glorious and heavy. What I found really exciting about this was that Nomeansno were able to bust out some slower, groovier tracks like “What Slayde Says” and still keep up the energy. (Honestly though, is the album supposed to end that way or did both youtube videos just cut short?)

The orchestral elements were a fantastic addition to the songs and really amp up the intensity of the tracks, makes them feel larger than they would normally. All the songs have this...tragically beautiful air about them. Oh and they're super and fookin scottish. Forreal tho that man has one hell of a gorgeous voice and accent.

This is one of those live albums where you truly feel like you're there, especially with all the cheers and whistles from the audience. I've never really been one for heavy metal but this was a fun time. The songs had way more oomph than on their studio recordings, which I always thought was the main issue with maiden (you can think i'm crazy for thinking that and I won't be mad). Everyone’s performances were exceptional.

My Zappa jams checklist is pretty limited so i’m not too familiar with him or the Mothers. I noticed this had a far more comedic approach compared to the other albums i've heard. I love the wide array of instrumentation and whimsical nature of the tracks. Zappa isn't the most technical guitarist but is insanely talented and I felt his uniqueness was really showcased on tracks like “More Trouble Every Day.”

I’m shocked I haven't heard of these guys before, they rock pretty hard. Loved the dual vocal approach and being there felt like it must have been super fun and chill. The album is chock full of catchy melodies, seemingly improved jams, and killer instrument performances. I haven't jammed too much reggae stuff but this was a nice treat, the whole thing just felt super feel-good-y. My only complaint is that this thing is too looooooong.

*ROUND WINNER* | 7 | | Dire Straits Alchemy: Dire Straits Live
Archelirion
“Alchemy” is an album chock full of tasty improv and bluesy jams. Whoever the guitarist is, he’s quite the virtuoso, and this was one of the better performances i've heard actually. You really feel every note played and it struck all the right chords (no pun intended). With this said, I don't wanna undermine everyone else in the band, they played wonderfully too. The album harbors progressive qualities but never felt tacky or cheesy (a pitfall for many many prog artists).
4.15/5 | 8 | | Pinegrove An Audiotree Live Session
Conmaniac
From what i've gathered based on this record, Pinegrove are a southern emo rock band with twinkley elements and even some country thrown in. Their sound is a nice take on the genre and felt pretty unique. The vocalist felt earnest and has a sweet accent, he really shined on “Size of the Moon.” Everyone else plays well enough here and the stellar recording/sound quality certainly helps.
3.80/5

Alright here it is, the last rec (It’s a nice one too). This was one of the more...different listens for me. Not that the album is super abstract or experimental, but that i’m very inexperienced in this genre of dark, gothic-y rock. Despite that, this was actually quite enjoyable. The songs are all slower paced and have an almost eastern vibe to them. The tribal/almost operatic vocals are hauntingly beautiful here and what I believe to be the real star of the show. Big fan of the tribal esque drum work, it really created a surreal atmosphere throughout the concert.
