someone help me. post a link of his funniest bit or something. I feel like I just haven't been watching the right stuff. |
TMobotron
10.08.13 | I find his sets to be best listened to in full where you really can understand his whole approach.
No Refunds and Deadbeat Hero are two of my favorite specials ever, but he also has a couple (especially his later ones) that I'm not crazy about. Not sure I could pick out a specific bit to represent his act though. His comedy isn't for everyone either, but No Refunds can be found in full on YT if you're interested.
I think he's an interesting dude in general though, people compare him to Hicks and Carlin which may or may not be justified but his brand of comedy definitely does intend to be interesting as much as to be funny. For laugh out loud hilarious, CK wins by miles for me, but I could listen to Stanhope talk for days. |
TMobotron
10.08.13 | I've always loved his reaction to the crowd shortly after he comes on stage in this video too, shows that he's actually smart off the cuff rather than just writing good material.

Damn right. The motherfucker bleeds authority. It isn't arrogance, it's experience."
Bill Maher is a disgrace to the word comedian, he just uses comedy to push his political agenda, which is really that of Time Warner. All he does is repeat a democratic talking point, then make some joke about how you are a caveman or bigot or racist or have downsyndrome or some shit if you don't agree. He'll say something funny every once in a while, but overall hes a dumb absurdly arrogant asshole. |

02.08.15 | I gave Bill Maher a go yesterday. Never seen his work before. And even though I agreed with most of what he was saying, I didn't find him funny at all. Heck, I found Kevin Smith funnier and I don't really consider him a stand up comedian. Then again, I wouldn't consider Bill Maher a comedian either. |
LambsBread
02.08.15 | to be fair I only know him from Real Time with Bill Maher, but that show is complete trash.
i've seen him have Ron Paul on the show and tell him "if america were a smarter country you

so it's interesting yet terrible? illusion of having both sides? 9 times out of 10 there are republicans on. like fox news? sure there's obvious bias from the host but sit down and watch The five, then watch real time. which do you think you'll come out feeling informed from? |

LambsBread
02.09.15 | "which do you think you'll come out feeling informed from?"
neither, I think both shows are ways of keeping the public from recognizing both mainstream Republicans and Democrats since WWII are special interest puppets.
Thats something that should have been realized with the access of information via the rise of the internet, but the myth that either party is worth a shit is kept alive by shows like these, that reinforce people's stubbornness, ego, and jealousy with simplistic 'lesser of two evil' type arguments.
Both shows use (bad) humor to pass off half-ass talking-point arguments and hide behind serious rebuttals by being facetious. |
