So, this year started out for me with a positive outlook, but now i'm starting to get frustrated. I quit my job as a full-time employee for the company I work for and went down to just working on a at-needed basis, while I also found a new job which I was supposed to start today, but the fucktard who works with all the employees work schedules apparently failed to call me last thursday and give me the shifts and apparently he's been away from work ever since. AND I HAVE BASICALLY NOT WORKED ANYTHING FOR A MONTH, and it's driving me crazy, despite my work morale being extremely low. Mainly because i'm going to be so so so so broke, but I also just want something to do. I thought that this would be the perfect time to just hang out with friends, but HEY WAIT, my friends are working, studying or spending time with their partners.
Well, might as well make a Sputniklist, this page sort of keeps me sane when I have nothing else to do.
List is digs, not necessarily new albums. | 1 | | Jam City Dream A Garden
(Electronic/UK Bass/Alt. R&B)
Goddamn this is such a jam. It's incredible how it manages to sound like R&B from the future?!? I somehow envision night time in a clean futuristic utopic city. | 2 | | The Antlers In the Attic of the Universe
(Indie/Post-Rock/Beautifulasfuck-core)
Underrated in their discography. | 3 | | Archy Marshall A New Place 2 Drown
(Hip-Hop/Trip-Hop/Hardtodefinecore)
You know, there's just something with some artists from the UK. You can just HEAR that it's from there, and it's not just the accents. It's engrained in the sound of the instrumentals, the general feel that's still really relatable for me, despite the fact that I've never been to the UK.
It's just bleak, despite not being entirely sad, it makes me think of concrete, grey skies and worn down buildings out in the british suburbs.
Obviously not all british bands have this sound, but it's definitely not uncommon. | 4 | | All Tvvins IIVV
(Indie/Pop/Synth/)
Actually one of the most underrated pop albums from 2016. It's guitar based pop from Ireland, and while not groundbreaking, I can't say that I know any bands that sound like this. It reminds me of what would happen if M83, Bloc Party and Minus The Bear went together and just decided to make an album.
Some of the guitar effects are just really MTB-y, and I think that it's because the two dudes that make up this band both used to be in math rock bands too, Adebisi Shank and The Cast Of The Cheers. | 5 | | James Blake The Colour in Anything
(Soul/Electronic/Wellyoufuckingknowbynowwhatjamesblakesoundslikecore)
His best effort. | 6 | | Alix Perez and Ivy Lab Arkestra
(Drum&Bass/Liquid/Jungle/Neurofunk/imactuallynotverygoodatdrumnbasssubgenrescore)
Beautiful drum&bass collab. Very melodic, sort of liquid dnb.
seems like there's less and less decent dnb out there, does anyone have any nice recs? | 7 | | Jai Paul Jai Paul
(Electronic/Soul/Pop)
Will we ever see the release of a real Jai Paul album? Maybe, probably, hopefully. But neither he nor his brother A.K are known for working fast, so when that'll happen is anyones guess.
I just really hope that we'll see some signs of life from them soon. A.K. has been producing a few of the songs on NAO's latest album, and it's definitely quality. They both have a very recognizeable production-style that I want to see more of. | 8 | | Pantha Du Prince The Triad
(Electronic/Deep House/Techno??? fuck do i know)
I was surprised by this album, just gave it a shot today, and it's a whole lot more melodic than what I thought it would be. Had only listened to a few songs by da prince, and yeah I don't recall those sounding anything like this. It's a cool sound though. Not all too minimalistic and that's why I like it. | 9 | | Clarence Clarity No Now
(Maximalistic R&B/Pop/Noise)
Fucking can't wait for his new album. The tracks he has released has been really good so far, and even though it's a bit less "out there", I don't mind at all. This guy has such a distinct sound where he manages to sound so unique, despite it's just so... obvious? He manages to mix in eastern influences in the vocal melodies despite the music being very electronic and somewhat futuristic, and then he breaks the songs off in the middle with an extremely noisy part coming from nowhere and it's basically pure bliss for my ear drums. | 10 | | Sundara Karma Youth Is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect
(Pop/Indie Rock)
This is the only one of these releases that are from 2017. I've been waiting quite awhile for this album but still haven't spun it the entire way through.
This is nothing new, but they're doing this type of vibe really well. I guess you could say it lies somewhere between The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys basically. A very rock-ish vibe despite being rooted in pop.
Now when I think about it, 7/10 of the albums on this list are from the UK (i'm gonna count Ireland, which I know some would object to, but IDGAF), and one of the other three (Alix Perez) is from another country but actually resides in England.
This is actually not by meaning, but apparently i've started to really like british music. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ | |
