OH NO THIS WILL KILL ZEPPELIN'S CAREER

*spanish flea playing at the background*

the songs in question are from the 1960's and yet they're only coming forward with the charges now...

NO STAIRWAY

Well this is really fucking stupid
|
| |
DANIELCARDOSO IS 1 COMMENT FROM A THOUSAND CAN YOU PLEASE INSULT ME?
|
| |
People really have to give up on talking about how Led Zeppelin stole songs. There's only a certain amount of note
sequences one can write in a certain key and there are 7 billion people in this world. Odds are these guys aren't the first to
think of it either.
|
| |
They couldn't afford an attorney until now apparently
|
| |
zep's accountant will give them 5k to fuck off
|
| |
RANDY California.
And the only thing Zeppelin are guilty of is turning un-listenable, presently anachronistic proto-blues into masterpieces.
|
| |
i wonder if snide has something to do with this
|
| |
Oops don't know where Richard came from
|
| |
I'm not quite sure this classifies as a 'rip-off'...
|
| |
The first three notes in both songs are the same and it's a similar sounding guitar line, but last time I checked you can't copyright chord progressions
|
| |
the work of young people convincing old people that they've been 'ripped-off' by old successful people and to take action
they wouldn't have cared if it wasn't pushed in their faces

"Led Zeppelin Accused of Plagiarism"
lol, for the first time?
|
| |
shots fired
|
| |
It's a little late, don't you think?
|
| |
add it to the list
|
| |
Zeppelin plagiarize?????! NO FUCKiNG WAY!!!!
|
| |
randy california just heard stairway to heaven for the first time a few weeks ago and realized hey i wrote something a little similar to that intro
|
| |
Hasn't this theory gone on for years? Spirit apparently acknowledged in their liner notes that they heard the similarities when they toured together.
|
| |
well that's it; stairway to heaven is no more all hail taurus
|
| |
Um...congrats?
|
| |
I'll just leave this here for the people saying people need to stop claiming Led Zeppelin stole anything.

Music builds upon itself over time.
These geriatrics just need some $$$.
|
| |
This is weird, I thought Page asked him to use part of the chord progression in Taurus and Randy said it was okay. Way too late to be suing over this
|
| |
lol Randy's been dead for a long time now, his estate must be similar to hendrix's if they're this
greedy. Plus the songs are not the same, page probably heard Taurus, but I wouldn't sue anyone over
it.
|
| |
im sure no one will ever jam zeppelin again
|
| |
Most underrated song of all time, agreed.
|
| |
this is destined to be one of the best news threads of the year
|
| |
"im sure no one will ever jam zeppelin again"
If feel like this would only ruin Led Zeppelin for idiots. It's only like the first minute of the song anyway and it's not even
identical anyway, just similar.
Spirit just wants money and attention.
|
| |
no way the sky must be blue
|
| |
zep opened for spirit for one of their early american tours.
also plant and bonham have both cited spirit as an influence for poseurs who don't know
|
| |
Should have sued The Black Keys, that submarine song is basically a rip off of stairway.
|
| |
It's a bit late
|
| |
YA GOIN TO JAIL ZEPPELIN
|
| |
"NO STAIRWAY

Best sput comment 2014. I burst out laughing in class. fucking classic.
|
| |

|
| |
'It's a bit late'
They've done it just before the forthcoming Led Zep reissues. Perfect timing eh ;)

NO STAIRWAY
DENIED [2]
|

Everyone knows Page did "rip off" or get inspired by the Taurus intro but seriously why all of a sudden the legal action. Dat's just uncool.
|
| |
"Randy California"
lol
|
| |
Still, I don't trust in anyone who doesn't like led zeppelin
|
| |
Again?
|
| |
Yeah, is so hard to trust in people who doesn't like zep
|
| |
lol this is fucking retarded
|
| |
A day late and a dollar short?
|
| |
They'll prob be dead by the time they receive the money
|
| |
this isnt for money this is to try and make the other band relevant
|
| |
The non-plagiarized albums are good
|
| |
if thats the case bigsneakysnatch it aint gonna work. spirit shirts will not replace zep usa tour 77 shirts at any department store
|
| |
Water is wet, news at eleven
|
| |
I must burn all my Led Zeppelin vinyls, bunch of liars...No but seriously, Randy California? Greatest name ever haha
|
| |
100 years later lmao someone needs crack
|
| |
Also if this guy had any class he would think of it like Ian anderson does with the eagles...
|
| |
sonic theyre obviously not going to be more relevant, but still this is the first real publicity theyve had in years. i mean theres no way theyre going to get any money
|
| |
specially if the judge is zepfan
|
| |
People are still surprised by this? They've always been a shitty band.
|
| |
everyone wants a piece of the pie
|
| |
dat custard pie.
|
| |
I love how no one reads the article before commenting, half the time, on here. It was SAID why it's only happening just now. They needed money for legal action, which he/they did not have until now, according to the article.
|
| |
Who cares? Stairway to Heaven is great.
|
| |
I'd sure like a piece of your custard pie
|
| |
People are still surprised by this? They've always been a shitty band.
yeah, they never should have brought the Mississippi Delta blend to white idiots like yourself
|
| |
and thus Led Zeppelin's career is in shambles
|
| |
A little late, isn't he? Shouldn't he have done this, you know, when it came out.
|
| |
scoot already won this thread guys

fuckin scoot he like never posts anymore but when he does it's A+++
|

Ha! I just listened to Taurus and claiming Stairway to Heaven is a rip off of that is a bit of a stretch... Actually it's quite a long stretch. Had I not read this and listened to that song, I'd never thought to myself "God damn that sounds a lot like Stairway to Heaven". Nice try....
|
| |
"Led Zeppelin Accused of Plagiarism"
...... And????
|
| |
"And in other news, the prime minister of sweden visited washington today and my tiny little nipples went to france"
|
| |
lol
|
| |
This band has a track record of ripping other musicians off, no surprise here.
|
| |
Ok for all idiots in this thread: the stairway opening riff is extremely simple and was used by many artists, there are some similarities, but thats it, no plagiarism there AND more importantly all the blues interpretations LZ did aren't rip offs!!!!!!! for the last fucking time :D those classic blues songs are common property with the original artists unknown. it is totally legitimate among the blues community to play older songs, you don't cover it, you do a new interpretation.
|
| |
white people from the 60's playing blues accused of plagiarism?
did I miss something?
|
| |
I thought with composition only the melody of a song was copyrighted (there's like 4 other copyrights in a single recorded work or something I can't really remember), as it is the most recognisable section of a song. Stairway To Heaven with different vocal melodies, is a different song; Stairway To Heaven with a different intro, or instrumentation, is still stairway to heaven. The same way the Men At Work drummer wanted songwriting credits for writing the drums to 'I come from the land down under', but the judged ruled that he could go and get fucked instead, because the drums are not integral and the song would at least melodically be the same with or without him. Obviously this riff is important to the song, but this is almost tantamount to someone hearing a triangle getting thrashed in this piece, and yelling out plagiarism because they fucked around on it first.
|
| |
^ tl;dr
|
| |
AND more importantly all the blues interpretations LZ did aren't rip offs!!!!!!! for the last fucking time :D those classic blues songs are common property with the original artists unknown.
This is only true of traditionals, which many of the songs that Zep were accused of stealing from aren't.
|
| |
"This is only true of traditionals, which many of the songs that Zep were accused of stealing from aren't."
that's true but the whole plagiarism thing has been blown out of proportion for decades. take custard pie for instance. yeah some of the lyrics are taken from bukka white but it's not like all of them are. i mean i've never heard anyone blasting clutch for stealing from blind willie johnson even though fallon used some of his lyrics.
|
| |
Hi,
I like both songs.
|
| |
Jimmy Page is gay anyways Jason Becker for life.
|
| |
Good God, some of you fan boys....
|
| |
I'm more of Spirit fanboy than a Zep one tbh.
Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus > any Zep album.
