Deerhunter announce new album 2015-08-17 by SgtPepper EMERITUS | 21 Comments | That's right! The follow-up to 2013’s Monomania has been scheduled for October 16th and will be released via 4AD. Deerhunter had been teasing fans on their website with a clock counting down to this past Sunday evening and the surprise (predictably) turned out to be the announcement of their seventh studio album, Fading Frontier.
The tracklisting is as follows:
01. “All The Same”
02. “Living My Life”
03. “Breaker”
04. “Duplex Planet”
05. “Take Care”
06. “Leather And Wood”
07. “Snakeskin”
08. “As Astra”
09. “Carrion”
According to the good people at Stereogum, a press release has promised the album will be “something strikingly balanced, focused on melody and texture,” as well as sporting a "brighter production" than its scruffy older sibling, Monomania. Deerhunter are by no means strangers to this kind of musical territory and it's a path that's lead them to producing some of their finest songs— see: "Helicopter."
Our first taste of Fading Frontier, “Snakeskin,” is definitely a step in a “poppier” direction (and I use that term rather lightly). It’s a funky, garage rock tune with some slight psychedelic flourishes that call back to Deerhunter’s sonically adventurous heyday, but without being overly indulgent about it. The sonic rollercoaster ride that Monomania turned out to be back in 2013 was a fun, noise-infested experience, but I gotta say, this direction ain't soundin' too shabby.
You can watch Bradford Cox rock overalls and his dog competing for camera time, on the music video of "Snakeskin" below.

damn that dog is cute
| | | Fun song. I felt kind of a brazilian, Jorge Ben-like vibe in it.
| | | Really enjoyable. Wasn't really impressed by Monomania but this sounds promising.
| | | Really dig the grooves in this song
| | | I've always liked this band a lot. This seems okay, def a decline though
| | | couldnt make it through the song
| | | Sweet. Stoked for this.
| | | Can't wait
| | | A new Deerhunter and Dear Hunter album in the same year, cool
| | | WOOOOOOOOOooooOOOooOHOOOOOOOOOO
| | | 👍
| | | dece band
| | | Why do I feel like Deerhunter always release around the same time as The Dear Hunter?
| | | gotta love how productive these guys are. i love Microcastle and Halcyon but i never got around to Monomania. should i?
| | | 'Why do I feel like Deerhunter always release around the same time as The Dear Hunter?'
I don't really listen to either band (saw the dear hunter once, they were okay) but every time I read one of their names, I can't remember who is who.
| | | Deerhunter is the one that's good
| | | I feel like sputnik has a bigger hard on for the other one. I always thought The Receiving End of Sirens sucked and that band is just the aftermath of their demise, but a lot of people seem to like it.
| | | IMO deerhunter is a great shoegaze/indie rock band. the dear hunter is pretty damn good at making theatrical prog rock. It's apples and oranges.
| | | better be better than that last mediocre output gotdang
| | | monomania was amazing idk what you're talking about
| | | song is so good
