edit: i am dumb
|
| |
Yes you are.
|
| |
u just got skooled
|
| |
the ultimate shame. i should delete my account.
real talk tho, who the hell wants to pay the price of a deluxe edition album for 6 songs and videos they werent going to watch anyways?
|
| |
Its kind of a clever idea to get people to check out every song they release tho.
|
| |
12 dollars though? that just seems... like overkill.
|
| |
Can we address the fact that the song itself is fucking awesome?
|
| |
im not able to hear it because i have to spend 12 dollars and I dont wanna do that

I enjoyed this song more than I enjoyed anything on the last album, but I don't like the production at all.
|
| |
nothing will ever compare to kezia
|
| |
amen
|
| |
Excited to listen to those six songs, but not fan enough to pay 12$. So what is there to do ? Looking for Youtube 'illegal' posts at each release ?
|
| |
"nothing will ever compare to kezia"
Fortress is better. More diverse, more creative, better production, better composition, etc. etc. Kezia is like "insert punk drums here and short-sighted feminist ideals here" for the entire album. It's still great, but it's not their best. I'd be hesitant to even put it right behind Fortress.
|
| |
"Kezia is like insert punk drums here and short-sighted feminist ideals here"
what even
|
| |
why...why dont the mods ever publish my articles anymore? tell me deviant!
|
| |
I mean shit, I'll pay 12 bucks for 6 songs if I know the money is going straight to the band and actually supporting them doing more shit in the future.
I'd rather they get that than the percentage of a cent they'd get from me buying a label produced album.
|
| |
well, except for the 10% cut bandcamp takes >.>
|
| |
"Kezia is like insert punk drums here and short-sighted feminist ideals here"
Haha, despite being hilarious this is quite true. Volition kinda pissed me off because it was all about dogs and Newfoundland.
This new song is cool, glad to hear this guys still pumping out quality stuff. Cool idea about the one-song-per-month subsciption
|
| |
Subscription idea is kinda silly but I've loved everything they've put out since Kezia so i'm cool with it. If it was any other band I'd probably give more of a shit
|
| |
Song is great as expected, but not really into this subscription. They're probably just seeing if it's an effective way to release their music. I really dig the album art too. Sharky being all shark like. 10/10
|
| |
I may give into the subscription cause I love protest
|
| |
not really digging the song at all
|
| |
As someone who helped fund volition, I care very little for how this band have chose to handle their new music.
Additionally, I have always disliked the idea of spreading multiple tracks over a long period of time. I just can't get excited for such small portions of content.
|
| |
"Volition kinda pissed me off because it was all about dogs and Newfoundland."
2 songs =/= an entire album
|
| |
this subscription thing is ridiculous, no way in hell will I support a band in trying to pull of this shit.
|
| |
Yeah, I'm definitely not feeling the subscription idea. Gotta give them credit for trying something new though, and they're handling the criticism well enough on FB.
|
| |
I think it's worth the money if you're already a fan of their music. $2 gets you a new song + an instrumental version of the song, it's really not that much money. Although, I think they should also make the singles available for purchase individually for people who only want a certain song. As for the drawn out releases, I don't mind it, as long as they're not completely doing away with full album releases.
|
| |
by the time they release twelve songs through subscriptions, maybe they'll decide to bundle the tracks as an album.
|
| |
I signed up for the subscription, which at $25 for 6 songs (normal and instrumental versions) plus a 6-part video on the background of the band (which is pretty great so far), is a pretty good deal IMO. They're also explicitly trying to break the cycle of dependency on record labels, which anyone should agree is worth supporting. Beyond that, I'm just a big fan of PTH, and frankly I think that they have enough fans in my position that the $12/$25 price point makes pretty good sense since they're attempting to earn a living wage off of this venture as opposed to the standard album/touring cycle. I think this makes sense and some of you haven't really thought it through. Just sayin'.
|
| |
Oh fuck this method.
You suck, Rody.
|
| |
brollin knows what's up.
|
| |
brollin thinks digital files have intrinsic value.
that's cute.
|
| |
Actually, I think food, clothes, and kilowatt-hours have value and that's what my money is going towards...
|
| |
They do. But provide me with a product to trade for those needs. Something I can hold onto and treasure, not a fucking .zip.
Hear that? That's the sound of Protest The Hero unzipping. And you're taking it all in.
|
| |
If they release these songs on a physical disc, only then would I consider paying.
|
| |
Christiaan de Bruin, also did a subscibtion thing last year, one song a week, each song was only a euro with his project
Still don't care about PtH tho
|
| |
"But provide me with a product to trade for those needs. Something I can hold onto and treasure, not a fucking .zip."
Bands make music, that's what you're supposed to treasure. The paper and plastic that it's sometimes packaged with is hardly of importance, especially in this day and age when a physical object is completely unnecessary to distribute the music. Burn the files to a disc and print out the art if you really need it.

I'm OK with the subscription method. It's their first go at it, and if it proves to at least be promising (albeit somewhat flawed), they'll likely revise it so you get more bang for your buck. $12 for 6 tracks plus instrumentals really isn't that bad, and I'd gladly fork over the cash knowing that the majority of it is going to band, because they continually produce great tracks and I'd like them to continue to do so.
Love the song. The first verse is especially awesome. Little bit of off-beat vocal polyrhythmic awesomeness, and it shows some restraint, which is the one thing I feel the band has lacked a bit of over the duration of their career.
|
| |
The guy who did the soundtrack for Fez and It Follows, Disasterpeace, also does the bandcamp subscription thing, but it's worth it because you can download all of his material (Probably like 20 Albums). I'm sure PTH can't give away all of their old stuff cause of their old label, so it must be nice for an artist when they have all the rights to their music. Plus, i'm sure studio time for a band is really expensive, though i'm sure they'll get all the support they need moneywise from this.
Oh and I remember reading that Brand New were thinking of releasing like a song a month or something (they seem pretty indecisive nowadays), but I'd much prefer an album from them lol. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they decide to do.
|
| |
This is just a straight up awful idea.
|
| |
i don't like forced "supporting". i've bought stuff from badncamp many times, but not like this. i like to ACTUALLY KNOW what i'm buying.
i'm going illegal on this, thank you.
|
| |
This is a straight-up great idea for a band taking advantage of the digital age. Not many bands can make their living from direct donations from fans, just ask Jeff Rosenstock.
|
| |
You're not "forced" to do anything. If you choose to support a band, then you do just that.
What is everyone's fuckin' gripe? Some "music community" we have going here. If you don't like the idea, then don't do anything. The band doesn't need help from selfish people such as yourselves.
|
| |
I don't even remember the first track but the second one is pretty dope.
|
| |
method sucks. song is great. glad to hear the band from the awful awful volition
|
| |
I'd be fine with the method if you could still listen to the tracks on bandcamp just without downloading them. And Voltion is my fave PTH album.
