Sounds like The Seer Returns a little bit. Liking the keyboard.
| |
its a good track, its not that peculiar that the song is this short. to be kind had 10 tracks and one of them was 5 minutes and not too different to this. its not like you would want to release a 30/40 minute song before the album is released when that song is likely to take up a fairly large chunk of the album
| |
i have run this through my song quality algorithm and the results say: NOT BAD
| |
this was pleasing to my ears
| |
Ugly cover, nice song though. I'm expecting stuff from this album
| |
ooooo
| |
excited
| |
u got it from the eagle !
| |
That still is an ugly ugly album cover
| |
thinking about skipping this one tbh
| |
Do you not know how to tag bands or something?
| |
Fucking awesome.
| |
Ha, I woke up today wanting to start another Swans binge.
Coincidence?
| |
That still is an ugly ugly album cover
I don't see yo momma anywhere on it.
| |
Sounds awesome. What's up with the album cover, tho
| |
cover is tough idc
| |
This is pretty... normal? Album should be very interesting, I'm looking forward to it.
| |
they're coming 2 my city, you bet your ass i'm going to see them
| |
Cover's nice, imo. Expected something along those lines after seeing the string of Gira solo projects with similar artwork and TBK's cover art. Anywho, song was really nice. High hopes on this record.
| |
i like the artwork too yea
| |
Yeah, Gira's art always treads along those lines. Sort of that neo-expressionistic/basquiat-ish with a pinch of naive-outsider influences. As dark and abrasive as his musical craft, of course.
| |
shapes n' colors n' shit, i like it
| |
xoxoxo
| |
this is fucking brilliant and it's so listenable as well fuckin ell
| |
Having listened to this and the teaser of the other song, I think I'm gonna start Swans' discography with the new one and work my way down tbh
| |
It took much too long to get interesting; coulda taken a minute and a half off the beginning and it woulda been the same, if not better.
| |
i didn't mind the intro tbh
| |
in the context of the album if it flows into/from a longer track, it could probably fit--but as a solo track it seems kinda filler-y to me.
| |
Kill yourself 2K16.
| |
y'all do know the story behind this song right? ...this was an intense listening experience.
| |
it was recorded and posted? i dunno nothin
| |
his wife posted on FB awhile ago with the incident of Gira's alleged rape, that she had evidence that the person was lying etc. and how it's clearly messed up to lie about something such as rape and how she had been the victim of assault by a man outside of a Target. The assault deeply wounded her, thus Gira suggested singing a song of her experience as a sort of release. The result is this track; a catharsis recollection of Gira's wife (who does the vocals) being attacked.
| |
oh damn
| |
" I have nothing but empathy for a person who has experienced assault. After all, *I* survived an extremely violent rape/kidnap attempt, which resulted in, (through my fighting hand to hand combat) in great injury to myself-but it saved my life. My entire life was affected. I was diagnosed with severe PTSD, panic disorder, and often have difficulty walking to my car in the Target parking lot after dark, sometimes bursting into tears. Do I like sharing such info on the internet? NO, but I feel at this juncture, I have no choice. I didn't have any "artist love affair" (puh-leeze) -it was a complete stranger. Nevertheless, it causes me such pain-daily, there is a song on a new Swans album, Michael wrote for me- (that I sing myself) I have not even listened to the song more than once since its recording, It upsets me so much to even hear myself sing it. This was, a loving attempt from Michael Gira to help me heal from such a horrible event. I take great insult in you accusing my husband of something like I went through." - Jennifer Gira *edit* Found it
| |
i do remember reading her story tho, no worries
damn that's heavy
| |
"I wrote the song ‘When Will I Return? specifically for Jennifer Gira to sing. It’s a tribute to her strength, courage, and resilience in the face of a deeply scarring experience she once endured, and that she continues to overcome daily."
| |
Pretty interesting.
| |
Cool song
Never listened to swans tho
| |
the opening half sounds like a fucking current 93 song so that's nice
| |
I saw a pic of an alt cover in the style of their pre-reunion covers, it was much better
| |
also dude you realise the song lengths have been released and the album is yet again two hours with three songs over 20 minutes long?
| |
Nothing less of expected. Lmao
| |
Sounds like Swans
| |
as boring as a christian service....please stop making music!
| |
@RustCohle lmao
| |
This just in, Swans to officially totally disband forever because some irrelevant user on an irrelevant site asked them to stop making music.

yay, finally those "I am so serious, believe me" tards are stopping to annoy me!

@trackbytrackreviews
I don't actually. Any help is appreciated.
@Veldin wow, that really adds a different aspect to the song. Pretty chilling to hear that opening line.
| |
Give them AOTUniverse already!
| |
dozens of comments about the cover.
almost no comments about the quality of the song.
Never change, sputnik.
| |
That was pleasant. Mildly excited for this album
| |
I just released this song is on M. Gira - I Am Not This CD that he sold on his solo tour. The song is entirely acoustic and runs at 2:58. He introduced the song saying, "Ok, let's try this. it's for Jennifer to sing."
the song is also in demo version on The Gate along with a 30 minute live version of Frankie M. which is also on the upcoming album, however we all know how much different their live stuff is than the studio recordings.
| |
Song is devastating, album art rules.
New Swans and Kayo Dot in the same month is going to be difficult to cope with.
| |
Pretty conventional for them, all in all. Can't wait to hear the rest.
| |
Swans+Kayo Dot=No sleep for a whole month
| |
The ending sounds like the "bring the suuuun!" section of the namesake track from TBK set to the beat of "The Seer Returns"
| |
I liked it, the climax at the end was worth it
| |
unreal
| |
This is so very swans
| |
Wow if Swans made more regular length songs like this I would be into them
| |

| |
"Wow if Swans made more regular length songs like this I would be into them"
you realise that's pretty much everything before Soundtracks for the Blind right?
| |
I like how Swans just jams on one chord for minutes on end and build on it for almost every song. When there is a chord change it's like, FINALLY, but even so. It's amazing how far they can get with so little. Impressive.
| |
^ agreed hard
