Yes's R&R Hall of Fame Induction

2017-01-06 by Divaman | 30 Comments
According to RTT News, Rick Wakeman of the classic rock band Yes has announced a change of heart, and says he now will attend the ceremony for Yes's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after the Hall announced that it will present Chris Squire's wife Scotland Squire with a posthumous award recognizing Squire's contributions to Yes.

Wakeman had previously criticized the Hall for inducting too many bands late in their careers after key members had passed away. However, he now has released a statement on his website saying that he will attend the ceremony.

Other performers inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 include The Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur. The induction ceremony will take place on April 7, 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Totally about time for Yes. (In fact, way past time). Now if we can just get Jethro Tull (and maybe Procol Harum) in there, I'll be happy.

Beastie Boys and Public Enemy are probably the most deserving rap groups to be in the RHoF tho

I'm one of those people who think that rap groups shouldn't be in RHoF, but what are you gonna d? Then again, I guess you could question whether folk artists belong there too.

If you think of the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" as the "Popular Music Hall of Fame," then it makes it easier to stomach. They've inducted plenty of R&B, soul, country, and pop musicians, so why draw the line at just rock? Something to think about.

That's fine, Shake, but then they ought to have called it the Popular Music Hall of Fame. But I have more problems with them for the acts they've excluded than for the admission of non-rock acts.

Well, Banks was only with them for the first two albums. They didn't really start to get popular until the 3rd. It's a tough call, but I understand it.

Maiden and Priest need in first, then we can move on to Venom

Brand New won't be eligible next year. It needs to have been at least 25 years since the release of their first record.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing The Monkees get in, Storm, although I guess I understand the objections to them.
