Possessed join Nuclear Blast

2017-05-11 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 37 Comments
Bay Area death metallers Possessed, arguably the first death metal band (the group coined the term "death metal" themselves), have today been announced as the latest signing to German metal label Nuclear Blast. The revived lineup will release their new album, their first original material since 1987's The Eyes of Horror, in 2018 (not counting the demos released by Mike Torrao's incarnation of Possessed from 1990-1993). No other details have yet been announced. The current lineup for this album will be:

Jeff Becerra - Vocals
Daniel Gonzalez - Guitars
Emilio Marquez - Drums
Robert Cardenas - Bass
Claudeous Creamer - Guitars

the group coined the term on their first album, Seven Churches

They coined the term on their first demo, Death Metal.

their first official release since 1987's The Eyes of Horror

They've had thirteen official releases after The Eyes of Horror.

Still would have been wrong considering The Eyes of Horror is an EP.

It's whatever it's an innocent harmless mistake. No need to tear him up for it snox. Anyway sput has that listed as an album but lord knows how accurate the database can be.

First new original material since 1987 then. Mike Torrao doesn't even count the 1990-1993 incarnation of Possessed as actually being the same band.

Oh and AiKo considering I've been unable to update that part of my profile for over a year now that argument is invalid.

Your article's fine, but knowing Snox, he'll probably find the most microscopic problem with it and be all over it like shit on the hot sidewalk

First new original material since 1987 then.

Would be wrong again though because the band has released unheard and new tracks over various compilations and splits since then, as well as new demos (if you discount them then it's fine even though they rule), etc. but I mean there is a pretty obviously easier way to word this...

"This will be their first full length studio album in over thirty years."

Unheard tracks aren't technically "new" though. And demos don't count as I'm only considering studio efforts. Not many people count anything after The Eyes of Horror.

Nuclear Blast should sack their entire motion graphics staff immediately.

I've never heard that before but "what people count" isn't really a thing that holds any weight against facts.

anyone care to explain to me how this is at all exciting? so the original singer has a band and they've been touring for a while performing possessed songs. why does anyone care about a new album? there is barely any creative connection to what the band was 30 years ago.

Because not all the original members need to be there for it to be good.

I don't give a fuck. I bet it will be a boring DM album without the energy of the debut.

Gonna change it to just "Possessed are releasing a new album. If you wanna know more ask our resident Possessed expert Astral Abortis". That'll work.

He's bein bit pedantic but the article definitely could have been better written.
At least it made sense, unlike most of the news submitted by the cucumbers on the site.
